Yes, and there are more of them than ever and the category keeps growing. The Maxus T90EV was the first all-electric pickup to reach the UK, and it has since been joined by the Isuzu D-Max EV and the rebranded KGM Musso EV, with a fully electric Toyota Hilux also on the way. If you're not ready to make the full switch, the Ford Ranger is offered as a plug-in hybrid. It's worth being realistic about the trade-offs, though. Electric pickups generally tow less and cover fewer miles between charges than their diesel equivalents, so they suit lower-mileage work and clean air zone driving rather than heavy hauling.

What's the most reliable pickup truck?

Two names come up again and again in industry reliability and customer satisfaction surveys. Is tax going up on pickup trucks?

That depends on how you're buying. If you're a private buyer running a pickup as your own car, the everyday costs of ownership are broadly unchanged. The bigger shift affects businesses. In April 2025, HMRC began treating most double cab pickups as cars rather than vans when working out benefit-in-kind and capital allowances, which means a company-provided double cab now costs more to tax than it once did. Road tax and VAT rules are unaffected, and electric pickups attract a much lower benefit-in-kind rate. Tax is rarely simple, so speak to an accountant about your personal situation to get as defined an outline as possible for your specific circumstances.
