Used Toyota Hilux for sale
The Toyota Hilux is a pick-up truck that's best known for its super rugged nature, after being made famous by a certain automotive TV trio that attempted to demolish a Hilux, but failed.
There are various reasons to consider a used Toyota Hilux, including:
- Unrivalled durability
- Toyota build quality
- Top levels of tech
- A safety first approach
- Off-road capabilities
Economy, Performance, and Towing
The eighth generation Hilux, which was introduced in 2015, is powered by a duo of impressive diesel engines. 2.4-litre variants offer 148bhp, while the larger 2.8-litre variants offer 204bhp and a sharper 0 to 62mph time of 10.7 seconds.
Being a pick-up truck, you may expect fuel economy figures to be uninspiring, but despite its large size, the Hilux still offers upwards of 30mpg. All models come with all-wheel drive, while automatic and manual gearboxes are also available.
If you plan on towing with your pick-up truck, then the Hilux will certainly appeal thanks to plenty of torque from its diesel engines. The towing limit is at 3,500kg for braked loads, while unbraked capacity stands at 750kg.
Bodystyles, Payload, and Capacity
Suitable for a variety of purposes, the Hilux is available in three bodystyles; Single Cab, Extra Cab, and Double Cab, with the latter being ideal if you regularly travel with more than one passenger. You can also find examples with hard and soft top covers, as well as various bed liners in order to increase protection, security, and durability.
If you plan on carrying large loads on a regular basis, then the single cab is the one to go for, providing you can sacrifice the additional seats. With a maximum load length of 2,315mm and up to 1,300kg of total payload, it can swallow almost anything you have to throw at it. Extra Cab and Double Cab variants still offer plenty of space however, with 1,808mm and 1,525mm respectively, making them a good option for active families too.
Other handy features can also be found, including four lashing points and sports bars to make life easier.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
In typical Toyota fashion, the Hilux's interior is well-built and durable, providing plenty of room throughout and confidence that it can get through a working day with ease. However, this tough nature comes at the cost of refinement in some areas, with plastics being used in the majority of the cabin as opposed to the more upmarket materials used in the likes of the Volkswagen Amarok.
All but the entry-level examples will come with Toyota's usual Touch 2 infotainment system, but there's also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility if you prefer a more modern experience. For those that love tech, it's worth finding a higher spec model as they offer the likes of heated front seats and smart entry.
The Hilux is an incredibly safe vehicle and has a range of available technology, including:
- Front and rear parking sensors
- Adaptive cruise control
- Reversing camera
- Lane departure alert
- Pre-collision system with pedestrian and cyclist detection
Is the Toyota Hilux right for me?
Searching for a pick-up truck that's ready for almost anything you have to throw at it? Well, you may have just found it. The Hilux prioritises durability while still offering a range of features to make it a good match for both your family and working life.
