Used Kia Ceed For Sale

The Kia Ceed is a mid-sized family hatchback that offers a good driving experience and a stylish appearance.

Pitched as the perfect alternative to established hatchbacks, such as the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf, the Ceed makes a strong case for itself thanks to its all-round capabilities. With plenty of space inside and all cars from this generation still benefitting from Kia's 7-year warranty, it's hard to go wrong.

Here's why you should consider a used Kia Ceed in a nutshell:

  • Great looks
  • Good to drive
  • Large boot
  • Economical range of engines
  • Well-equipped across the range

Engines and Driving Experience

White Kia Ceed, driving

Compared to its predecessor, this generation of Ceed offers a much sharper driving experience and feels much more engaging. However, the suspension has been stiffened to achieve this, which may not appeal to everyone. Bar that, wind and road noise is kept to a minimum, and the Ceed is easy to drive around town.

There are three petrol engines to choose from, all of which do a good job of blending performance and economy. The entry-level 1.0-litre with 118bhp offers decent poke thanks to the turbocharger and will return up to 50.4mpg.

A larger 1.5-litre with 158bhp (this unit can achieve up to 49.6mpg) is a balanced compromise between the smaller unit and the most powerful 1.6-litre with 201bhp, which only returns up to 41.5mpg.

A sole diesel in the form of a 1.6-litre CRDi engine is available. It recruits mild hybrid (MHEV) technology to improve economy and give the car a subtle boost in real-world driving conditions. Up to 62.8mpg is possible too, making it a great option if you frequently travel long distances.

Practicality and Running Costs

Kia Ceed, boot

With 395 litres, the Ceed has a bigger boot than the likes of the Volkswagen Golf (380 litres). Naturally, the rear seats can fold flat to expand the capacity to a commodious 1,291 litres. There's also a split-folding boot floor, allowing you to reduce the loading lip or create a hidden compartment for valuables.

All cars come with 5-doors and ISOFIX anchor points in the back as standard, so the Ceed is well-equipped for family duties. In addition, the Ceed is capable of towing a braked trailer up to 1,500kg, although you'll need the diesel to haul the greatest weight.

This generation of Ceed isn't particularly old on the grand scheme of things, meaning they still benefit from Kia's 7-year warranty. Even then, servicing and maintenance won't cost too much, and can be completed through your nearest Evans Halshaw Kia retailer. The highest insurance group the Ceed occupies is 18, with many falling below that, so annual premiums should be affordable.

Interior, Technology and Safety

Kia Ceed, interior

In terms of quality, there's very little that separates the Ceed and the established Vauxhall Astra. An attractive touchscreen occupies the top of the centre console, while soft-touch materials complement the well-thought out cabin design.

Kia have been generous with the Ceed's equipment list across the range. Entry-level '2' models get cruise control, Bluetooth, air-conditioning and an 8-inch touchscreen that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's a '2 Nav' model available, which simply adds a larger 10.25-inch screen with satellite navigation.

Upgrade to the '3' spec and you'll get the larger touchscreen along with dual-zone climate control, electric folding mirrors and rear parking sensors. The GT-Line is worth seeking out if you want something sportier because it gets a body kit, heated front seats and various exterior accents.

GT-Line S cars build on that by adding a digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging and adaptive cruise control.

Safety features available on the Kia Ceed include:

  • Driver attention warning
  • Lane keeping assistance
  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Lane following assistance
  • ISOFIX anchor points

Is the Kia Ceed right for me?

The Kia Ceed is an excellent all-round family hatchback that offers a great driving experience and plenty of equipment. Despite offering better value than more established rivals, the Ceed is a genuinely great alternative that doesn't cut corners where it matters.

This segment of the market is pretty well accounted for, so be sure to check out rivals. The Volkswagen Golf is arguably the class-leader in this segment, but faces hot competition from the Ford Focus. A SEAT Leon is always a good bet if you want a competent family car with a premium edge.
