Used Kia Soul For Sale

The Kia Soul is a crossover with a unique design and was in production between 2014 and 2018, before making a return later on as a pure electric car.

In a market where there are tons of alternatives to choose from, such as the Kia Sportage and Renault Captur, the Soul stands out with its quirky appearance that will no doubt appeal to motorists who want to be different.

Distinctive looks aside, the Soul makes a good used car purchase for the following reasons:

  • Spacious interior
  • Big boot
  • Affordable servicing costs
  • Younger models benefit from Kia's warranty
  • All-electric model available

Engines and Driving Experience

Yellow Kia Soul, driving

Being a tall vehicle, the Soul leans through corners more than some rivals, but it offers plenty of grip so it's nothing to be concerned about. Because the electric version is so quiet (no engine noise), you will notice wind and road noise a bit more, but it's hardly excessive.

The CRDi diesel with 134bhp is unlikely to win any drag races, but it returns up to 58.8mpg. A 201bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine will satisfy those who desire speed, achieving the 0 to 62mph sprint in 7.5 seconds and returning up to 40.9mpg.

A more eco-friendly 130bhp petrol unit is also available, and can achieve up to 43.5mpg. In 2019, the Soul was released as a pure electric car, producing the equivalent of 201bhp and delivering up to 280 miles of range.

Practicality and Running Costs

Although the tall body does hamper the Soul in corners, it does pay dividends inside. There's a ton of head room for even the tallest of passengers, while leg space isn't quite as impressive but still generous all the same.

All cars come with 5-doors as standard. This may not seem a revelation, but the doors provide a wide-opening, ultimately making it easy to fit a child's seat using the ISOFIX anchor points. With 354 litres at its disposal, the boot is ideal for family duties, and can comfortably accommodate items such as prams and sports equipment.

Younger models still benefit from Kia's extensive 7-year warranty, so keep an eye out for examples that still qualify. Being a Kia, servicing and maintenance won't set you back a great deal, and can be completed through your nearest Evans Halshaw Kia retailer.

Interior, Technology and Safety

The Soul's interior design blends robustness with a touch of flair, and underwent an update in 2016 where it got higher-quality materials and various visual enhancements.

Generously equipped across the range, you can choose from four different Soul models: '1', '2', '3' and 'Sport'. Entry-level '1' models get Bluetooth connectivity, steering-wheel mounted controls and DAB radio as standard. '2' cars benefit from cruise control, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen alongside Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility.

It's worth keeping an eye out for '3' models, which get heated front seats, front parking sensors and a fancy JBL sound system. Sport models add more in the way of visual changes, such as 18-inch alloy wheels, twin exhaust pipes and various red highlights.

Kia Soul is available with the following safety features:

  • Front and side airbags
  • Anti-lock brakes (ABS)
  • Electronic stability control (ESC)
  • Blind-spot detection system
  • Tyre-pressure monitoring system

Is the Kia Soul right for me?

In such a congested market, it's usually quite easy to suggest an alternative car that's worth a look at. But the thing with the Soul is that it's genuinely unique in the way it looks without compromising on its drive or practicality. In short, if you do want something left-field, then the Kia Soul is absolutely the right car for you.

Don't get us wrong though, we will try and suggest some rivals to look at. The Renault Captur isn't quite as extravagant, but it's more fun to drive and has a bigger boot (422 litres). Then again, if you want a distinctive-looking crossover, then maybe the Nissan Juke will appeal.
