Introducing the All-New Hyundai i20
Now entering its third generation, Hyundai's popular i20 supermini has been completely refreshed and is now more technologically advanced than ever.
Having initially launched in 2008, the i20 has built a reputation for offering a blend of practicality, reliability and quality. In addition, there was more technology and safety features available than the price point would suggest, meaning the i20 represented exceptional value for money.
Boasting a new look alongside a host of new features, the i20 has built on its predecessor by adding a sportier design that has been complemented by the addition of mild-hybrid technology for the first time.
Design and Practicality
The latest i20 is the first car in Europe to implement Hyundai's 'Sensuous Sportiness' design philosophy. In short, the i20 has been elegantly designed to blend sporty features with an eye-catching silhouette that is ready for the urban environment.
In addition to the modern design, which boasts features such as dynamic bumpers, a new lighting signature, and freshly designed 17-inch alloy wheels, the i20 is available with a host of contemporary colour choices (two-tone is available).
Because of the longer wheelbase and increased width, i20 offers more seating space for passengers sitting in the rear, while the driver benefits from improved visibility thanks to a decreased beltline and inclusion of a window behind the rear doors. Boot capacity has grown by 25 litres over the outgoing model, and now offers a substantial 351 litres of space.
Technology and Safety
The latest i20 offers exceptional connectivity alongside premium sound quality. A new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster is available and can be configured to display different information, while the elegant 10.25-inch touchscreen (8-inch standard) that occupies the centre console offers vibrant menus that are easy to navigate.
Additional features, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are also available and make it incredibly easy to mirror your smartphone on the infotainment system's screen. A wireless charging pad makes smartphone charging via cable a thing of the past, although a USB port is available for passengers sitting in the back. On top of this, a Bose audio system is available for music enthusiasts.
Driver aids and safety features available, include:
- Bluelink Connected Car Services
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)
- Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC)
- Lane Following Assist (LFA)
- Collision-avoidance Assist Warning (BCA)
- Parking Assist (PA)
Economy and Performance
Hyundai i20 is available with two engines and three different transmissions, while a mild-hybrid is available for those who want improved efficiency.
Topping the range is the turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine, that is available in either 98 or 118 bhp guises. The higher powered engine comes with the 48V mild-hybrid technology as standard, while it's an option on the 98 bhp variant. The hybrid set up contributes to a 3-4% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Depending on which variation you opt for, this version is available with the following gearboxes:
- 7-speed dual clutch transmission
- 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (allows the car to coast and therefore save fuel)
The entry level engine is a 1.2-litre petrol unit that produces 82 bhp and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
