Introducing the new Hyundai INSTER
The Hyundai INSTER is an all-new model which joins the comprehensive Hyundai new car range, and happens to be the Korean manufacturer's smallest fully-electric vehicle.
It builds upon the good things come in small packages mantra, and aims to challenge what you might expect from a small electric vehicle, especially in the compact car segment.
With a bold design language, ultra-popular SUV profile, surprising practicality and attractive running costs, the INSTER has the foundations to impress.
Design and Practicality
Despite being a traditional A-segment sub compact city car, the INSTER features expanded dimensions, which you tend to see more in the larger B-sement.
The INSTER's design is bold, yet clean, and features the ever-popular SUV profile. LED daytime running lights, along with pixel-grahpic turn signals, tail lights and rear bumper give the INSTER a super-modern design, complemented by its high-tech, circuit board-style front bumper, too.
Steel wheel covers, along with the ability to choose 15-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels complete the INSTER's modern look.
INSTER's interior offers spaciousness and versatility, with walk-through access up front, whilst all the INSTER's seats can be folded flat, to aid space further.
Technology and Safety
Technology mirrors the INSTER's modern vibe with 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, along with a matching 10.25-inch infotainment screen too, showcasing touchscreen navigation, along with a complementing wireless charging dock, which is packaged neatly in the compact centre console set-up, again to aid spaciousness.
INSTER also offers 64-colour ambient lighting along with the most complete safety and technology package in this sub-compact segement.
Therefore, INSTER features a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) which includes Surround View Monitor, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear, Blind-Spot View Monitor and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. There's also Lane Keeping Assist, Smart Cruise Control, as well as Parking Distance Warning - Front and Rear.
Engines and Performance
As the INSTER is a fully-electric car, the car features no engine but a battery and electric motor instead. Equipped with a 42 kWh battery as standard, the INSTER also offers a Long-Range 49 kWh battery too.
Both models are powered by a single electric motor that produces 96bhp in the base model, or 113bhp in the Long Range versions.
Up to 220 miles off a full charge will be possible, whilst performance will differ slightly, with the Long Range version offering an edge of the standard model. The INSTER is by no means a peformance car, but its electric nature will make it easy to drive, especially in congested city streets.
Charging
Charging can be done in a number of ways. AC charging takes four hours.
There's also fast charging, which can take the INSTER from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes when using a High-Power Charger (DC with a minimum output of 120kW).
