In this section, we’re going to explore the range of new electric vans each manufacturer produces, and the advantages of purchasing one brand-new has to offer.

Vauxhall Vivaro Electric

Kicking off our electric van list strong with the award-winning Vauxhall Vivaro Electric.

Styling-wise, the Vivaro Electric looks rather smart for a van, and comes equipped as standard with cruise control, auto headlights, rear parking sensors, nearside and offside sliding side-access doors, and a smart 10-inch colour touchscreen.

The Vauxhall Vivaro Electric offers up to 219 miles of electric range per charge, when opting for the 75kWh battery, or up to 196 miles with the 50kWh battery option. That's a lot more than many current electric vans, which can rarely go beyond 200 miles.

Payloads are decent too, with 1,226kg from the 50kWh battery version and 1,002kg for the 75kWh battery version. Either spec can tow up to 1 tonne across the variants, and both produce zero CO₂ emissions.

As for charging, 80 percent capacity can be achieved between 30 and 45 minutes with a 100kw charger. If you opt to charge it at home, your van will be 100 percent charged overnight with a 7.4kW wallbox.

Renault Kangoo Van E-Tech

White Renault Kangoo E-Tech being charged

It's fair to say Renault was ahead of the game in terms of electric vans, as the newly rebranded Kangoo Van E-Tech was introduced to the market in 2011.

As for styling, the Kangoo has been updated since its first appearance over a decade ago. Now fresher and smarter, the interior follows suit, and this van is equipped with features that get the job done. With an 8-inch infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto pre-installed, the focus is on facilitating connectivity to smartphones.

Over time, the practical Kangoo has evolved and is by far one of the best electric vans on the market, offering a decent 750kg payload and an excellent 1.5 tonnes towing capacity, which, considering its size, is really good.

On average, you should see around 124 miles of range in the warmer summer months, whilst in winter you'll see a reduced circa 75 miles of range. Charging will take just 6 hours from flat to full when using a 7kW wallbox charger, and a single hour charge provides 22 miles of range.

Ford E-Transit

The Ford Transit is arguably the most iconic van in the UK, and the E-Transit is an excellent alternative for those who are looking for an all-electric van that produces zero tailpipe emissions.

With a 197-mile range and up to a 1,758kg payload, the E-Transit offers a more than decent package. And as for running costs, it's estimated you could save up to 40 percent in servicing and cost of ownership compared to a regular Transit or similar.

Ford SYNC 4 is also included, for a cloud-connected communication and entertainment system. Charging will be similar to the norm, with overnight charging solutions, and faster times from a dedicated wallbox or by using a public rapid charging station.

As an example of charging times, when using a 11.3kW charger, the E-Transit goes from 0 to 100 percent in 8 hours. Alternatively, you can use a 115kW DC rapid charger that can replenish the battery from 15 to 80 percent in only 34 minutes.

Citroën ë-Berlingo

Blue e-Berlingo driving in the motorway

The new Citroën ë-Berlingo Van Electric is, as you've probably guessed from the name, 100 percent electric, producing zero tailpipe emissions. This is good news if you live in or work in the city, as you won't have to pay congestion charges due to the van's environmentally friendly nature.

This version of the Berlingo is more or less identical to its regular fuel-powered Citroën Berlingo sibling, maintaining the design the Berlingo is known for.

The Citroën ë-Berlingo Van Electric offers up to 213 miles of electric range per charge and a decent payload rating up to 803kg. When it comes to the towing, the ë-Berlingo is capable of towing up to 750kg, which is great for moving small home furniture, compact camping trailers and small motorcycles.

How quickly you’ll be able to charge your van will depend on the charging method. A standard 7kW wallbox charger takes around 7 and a half hours to fully charge the ë-Berlingo. This time can be shortened to 5 hours when using an 11kW charger. Alternatively, you can use the 100kW fast charger, which’ll go from 0 to 80 percent in only 30 minutes.

Renault ZOE Van E-Tech Electric

White Renault ZOE van parked in front of a house

The Renault ZOE Van is actually the first all-electric car-derived van available for the UK market. Featuring the same electric range, tech, and interior quality of the ZOE electric car, the van version is a nice transition for those looking for a van ideal for a small business.

With a payload of up to 387kg, the ZOE is a compact van that performs well in urban areas. This is the only van in our list that doesn't feature any towing capacity, but considering its humble dimensions, it comes as no surprise.

However, for what it lacks in towing capability, it more than makes up for in range, offering the most in this list of electric vans, with up to 245 miles possible.

Like most electric vans, a 7kW charger is a great addition if you want to charge your electric van in a reasonable amount of time. It will take around 9 to 10 hours with the ZOE, so an overnight charge will suit it perfectly. Public fast chargers reduce this time to around 3 hours.

Rapid charge points can give 80 percent battery in as little as 1 hour 10 minutes, or 90 miles of range in 30 minutes.

Nissan e-NV200

Another solid electric van, the Nissan e-NV200 doesn't differ much from the regular NV200 vans. Apart from small blue detailing here and there on the exterior and interior, the e-NV200 is subtle in its approach.

What isn't so subtle is its electric ability, with between 124 and 187 miles possible, thanks to a new 40kWh battery. What's more, three different charging modes are available, with an 80% charge possible in 40 to 60 minutes with a rapid charger, or a full charge in seven and a half hours with a wall box. It's also worth taking note that if you wanted to charge via a domestic plug, it would take a lengthy 21 and a half hours. But it's nice to know there will always be an option.

The e-NV200 has a payload of up to 705kg, along with a 410kg towing capacity too. Standard features include ABS, front power windows, and Nissan Intelligent Key, whilst the range also features cruise control, reversing camera, air con, and navigation.
