The Sorento is a large 7-seat SUV that sits at the top of Kia's range of cars, and has been designed to bridge the gap between everyday SUVs and more expensive alternatives.

Engines and Driving Experience
Despite costing less than more premium cars, the Sorento offers a similar driving experience. The refinement is excellent on the majority of Britain's roads, and feels planted at motorway speeds. Despite the Sorento's size, the visibility is pretty good, while the light steering is welcome when navigating towns.
The Sorento is quite a hefty vehicle, making the 2.2-litre diesel engine a good choice for families that do quite a bit of mileage. The 199bhp is decent, but the most important figure is the 324 lb/ft, which really helps when accelerating. Combined with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, this unit can achieve up to 42.2mpg.
Available as a hybrid (HEV) of plug-in hybrid (PHEV), you can expect lower emissions and enhanced fuel economy. Paired with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, either hybrid drivetrains are pokey enough, yet the likes of the PHEV can return up to 176.6mpg while travelling 35 miles on electric power alone.
Practicality and Running Costs
Endowed with a longer wheelbase over the previous model, the Sorento has acres of space inside for children and grown adults. SUVs with seven seats can usually be a bit cramped for passengers sitting on the third row, but the second row of seats can slide forward to create more leg room.
The great thing about the third row of seats is that they can be folded down, creating 616 litres of boot space in the diesel, 608 litres in the standard hybrid model, and 604 litres in the PHEV. Fold the second row down and it unlocks between 1,988 and 2,011 litres of space.
With the ability to tow 1,650kg braked trailers, the Sorento is a capable SUV for caravanners. Although the diesel ups the ante with a capacity of 2,500kg.

Step up to the '3' and you'll enjoy larger 19-inch alloy wheels alongside a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen in the centre. Ambient lighting also features, as does leather upholstery and a powered tailgate. Top-spec '4' cars are worth seeking out because they come with Nappa leather, ventilated front seats, a Bose sound system and a head-up display.
