Other naturally aspirated engines can be found on used examples, but they were removed from production in 2020. The XC90's focus is on comfort rather than performance, giving a smooth and refined ride. When pushed however, it's fairly agile and can still retain a controlled feel when cornering hard.

Practicality and Running Costs

Practicality is arguably the XC90's strongest suit, with space for up to seven on some models. Head and legroom is good throughout, even in the third row; taller adults may still find sitting back there a bit of a squeeze, but it's certainly roomier than what most rivals have to offer.

In 7-seat configuration, the XC90 still offers a respectable 356 litres of boot space. Folding the third row down (or opting for a 5-seat model) is when the XC90 really shines, offering an impressive 1,007 litres of boot space. For times where you're carrying even larger bits of luggage, folding down all five rear seats provides a colossal 1,856 litres of space. Pair this with the low loading lip and transporting cargo is a breeze.

Interior, Technology and Safety
