Red Skoda Kodiaq Exterior Front Driving

At the top of Skoda's range in terms of size, the adventure-ready Kodiaq is the Czech manufacturers first entry into the 7-seat SUV market.

But with the competitive SUV market comes high expectations and this vehicle definitely doesn't disappoint. Possessing the usual Skoda practicality and reliability, along with a long list of technology, there's sure to be a smile on your family's face when its time to buckle up.

Here's a brief overview of the Kodiaq's key features:

  • Good value for money
  • Four-wheel drive availability
  • High safety rating
  • Varied choice of engines

Discover the benefits of the Skoda Kodiaq in more detail below.

Engines and Driving Experience

When it comes to engines, you're spoilt for choice. The petrol engines start at 1.5-litre with 150bhp and end with the vRS' 2.0-litre, 245bhp monster. The diesels, which are more capable when towing heavy loads, come in the form of a 2.0-litre TDI motor with either 150 or 200bhp.

All of the different versions get the job done, but if you're regularly packing the Kodiaq to the rafters, the higher-powered variants are available with four-wheel drive, giving it that extra boost.

Whilst it can double as a workhorse, the aspect of comfort isn't sacrificed. The Kodiaq can glide down A-roads and motorways and deals with bumps and cracks in the road with relative ease. It's worth bearing in mind that sportier models have larger alloys and tighter suspension setups, meaning less comfort.

Practicality and Running Costs

Skoda Kodiaq Boot

The Skoda Kodiaq is a large SUV so, of course, it's practical. 7-seats are common as only the entry-level SE specification doesn't come with them as standard. The second row of seats do slide back and forth, whilst it's a 60/40 split rather than individually, it still makes life easier when trying to access the ISOFIX mounting points in the rear of the car.

Another strength of the Kodiaq is its large amount of boot space. Expect 270 litres with seven seats up, 835 litres with five, or a tunnel-like 2,065 litres with all of them folded down.

Running costs are also reasonable, with the average insurance group being lower than group 25 (out of 50) but be prepared for this to rise if you opt for powerful variants, especially the vRS. Your local Evans Halshaw dealership is well-equipped to deal with any maintenance or servicing requirements.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Skoda Kodiaq Interior

Skoda have provided another consistently reliable, high-quality interior within the Kodiaq. The driving position is high, giving you a proper large SUV feel, and it can be adjusted to personal preference, whilst keeping all buttons within reach.

Entry-level used examples provide an adequate amount of equipment, but opting for SE Drive and above specifications unlocks fancier bits of technology. This includes satellite navigation and parking sensors for both the front and rear which can be useful when manoeuvring around tight spaces.

A full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating provides reassurance for you and your family, along with a wide range of available safety features, such as:

  • Blind-spot detection
  • Traffic jam assist
  • Lane-keeping assistance
  • Automatic emergency braking

Is the Skoda Kodiaq right for me?

Yet again, Skoda have managed to provide a great value for money vehicle with the Kodiaq. Handy bits of technology and a comfortable cabin are just a couple of reasons why it's a viable candidate if you're after a large SUV.

However, another great all-rounder that's worth taking a look at is the Kia Sorento which is now in its fourth generation. There are also more premium options on the SUV market, such as the BMW X5 and Land Rover Discovery, but these come at a higher cost, as you'd expect.

Either way, Skoda's offering on the 7-seat SUV market is one that shouldn't be overlooked.
