Used Kia Sorento For Sale

The Kia Sorento is a large SUV that has comfortable seating for seven passengers alongside a classy interior design.

Although it didn't sell as well as its smaller sibling, the Kia Sportage, this generation of Sorento was still a popular choice among larger families during its run between 2015 and 2020. The great thing about the Sorento is that it offers a premium finish inside, but doesn't have the premium price tag to match.

Reasons to consider a Kia Sorento include:

  • Seven seats as standard
  • Practical interior and a big boot
  • Powerful diesel engine
  • Affordable servicing costs
  • Refined driving experience

Engines and Driving Experience

Silver Kia Sorento, driving

For such a large car, the Sorento feels reasonably nimble, which is a trait that pays dividends when navigating urban areas. The Sorento's size may feel a little intimidating at first, especially if you're coming from a smaller hatchback, but it feels stable and comfortable at speed, meaning it won't take long to get used to.

There's only one engine to choose from, consisting of a 2.2-litre that produces 197bhp. If you go for an example with the manual gearbox, then the 0 to 62mph dash will take 8.7 seconds. This increases to 9.1 seconds in the automatic, although you are rewarded with a seamless driving experience in return.

Go for the manual gearbox and you'll be able to achieve up to 41.5mpg relatively easily. It's worth noting that examples fitted with the automatic gearbox can only achieve fuel economy in the late 30s (mpg).

Practicality and Running Costs

Silver Kia Sorento, boot

Nobody could accuse of the Sorento of being impractical, because there's acres of space inside and a massive boot. With three rows of seats, you'll be able to transport seven people in comfort, although the third row is probably best reserved for children.

The great thing about the third row of seats is that they fold away to create a massive 605-litre boot. And if you need even more space for things like tip runs, then the second row of seats will fold down to reveal a 1,662-litre van-like space.

Manual cars can tow 2,500kg, making it great for caravans or trailers. Don't worry though, the automatic can still haul 2,000kg with little issue.

Being a large SUV, you can expect annual premiums and running costs to be more than smaller cars, but they should still be less than more expensive alternatives. Servicing and maintenance can be completed through Evans Halshaw Kia retailers.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Kia Sorento, interior

Typical of any Kia from this generation, the interior is well-made, with an emphasis having been placed on the quality of the materials and plastics used. A clear touchscreen takes centre stage, while the air-conditioning controls are simple to operate without looking cheap.

The Sorento is well-equipped across the range and starts with the KX-1, which gets 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, cruise control, a reversing camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. KX-2 models come with automatic lights and wipers, dual-zone air-conditioning, and an infotainment system with sat nav.

If you want luxuries such as bigger wheels, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging or a powered tailgate, then you need to be looking to higher specs such as the KX-3, GT-Line and GT-Line S.

The Sorento is available with a host of driver aids and safety features, including:

  • Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning system
  • Rear cross traffic alert

Is the Kia Sorento right for me?

If you're looking for a large SUV that can comfortably accommodate the whole family without costing a small fortune in running costs, then the Sorento is a fine choice that is unlikely to disappoint.

There are a few options to consider around the Sorento's price point. The Land Rover Discovery Sport is a fantastic SUV that will be more capable off-road. A Hyundai Santa Fe is slightly smaller, but offers similar value.

Alternatively, you could consider the next generation of Kia Sorento if you have the budget and want something newer.
