The engine the BYD Seal U DM-i uses is a 1.5-litre petrol engine, with either 218bhp or 324bhp which is complemented by the onboard 18.3kWh Blade Battery. Total electric range is up to 50 miles, and paired with the frugal petrol engine, you can expect between 235 and 314mpg.
Despite its family SUV label, the SEAL U DM-i is actually quite quick, with 0 to 62mph happening in as little as 5.9 seconds with the 324bhp variant, or a more commonplace 8.9 seconds with the 218bhp variant.
Practicality and Running Costs
Being a family SUV, there's plenty of space inside the BYD SEAL U DM-i, both upfront, and in the space comprising the back seats too, with cubbyholes and the like for your bits and pieces.
With a 425-litre boot, the SEAL U DM-i also offers plenty of luggage space, ideal for most families and their belongings. This sees it offer similar space, if a little less, than that of the MG HS, which offer 448 litres in the plug-in hybrid variant.
Running costs should be fairly competitive, with routing servicing being able to be carried out via your preferred Evans Halshaw BYD retailer.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
The interior is rather funky, and features decent materials, along with a fully-digital instrument cluster, along with a Tesla-like central infotainment screen which you can flip to either sit in a landscape or portrait position.
The system houses various settings, although many people will connect their smartphones for familiarity, as the system offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
