Used Ford Puma for sale

First appearing back in 1997, the Puma name appeared on a smart and compact Ford coupe. Today, the Puma is actually a little different and instead appears on a compact SUV crossover.

The cool SUV crossover body is perfect for the city, but isn't afraid to venture out when needed. As reincarnations go, the different body style of the Puma has gone with the times and has been greatly received. But what makes the Puma a great vehicle, and a great used one at that:

  • Modern looks
  • Great practicality
  • Lots of tech
  • Economical

Engines and Driving Experience

Ford Puma, Exterior, Driving

Ford know a thing or two about engines, and so EcoBoost engine technology is available in the Puma line-up, delivered via a mix of 1.0-litre petrol and mild hybrid choices. There is also a larger 1.5-litre petrol in the sports focused, range-topping ST version.

Economy is great for this compact SUV crossover too, with all versions able to deliver over 40mpg, whilst the mild hybrid versions can nudge over 50mpg.

To drive, the Puma is like its smaller sibling - the Fiesta. This is no ill compliment, as the Fiesta is a superb little car to drive, and SUV crossovers sometimes have problems with their driving experience, so to emulate a car is always welcoming.

Practicality and Running Costs

Ford Puma, Exterior, Rear

A class-leading 456 litres of boot space is on offer in the Puma, with 80 litres of this space coming in the way of Ford's Megabox - which is a neat bit of storage under the Puma's boot floor.

With five-doors as standard, the Puma is a doddle to get in an out of. Although the back is more Fiesta sized, as this is the car on which it is based upon, so time spent in the back for large adults won't be the best over long periods of time, but it's certainly not bad.

Running costs are attractive thanks to the small engines. And being a Ford, parts, servicing and tyres are all very reasonable.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Ford Puma Interior

As with many cars, the digital age has embraced interior presentation, and in this case the Puma has been one of Ford's first models to get a fully digital instrument cluster. This suits the interior ambiance, which is modern, premium feeling and overall very impressive. This digital dial set-up is available on all models, apart from the entry-level Titanium models, which use conventional analogue dials.

Despite having no digital dials, Titanium models still get an impressive set-up as standard with impressive tech and safety features. These include 'Autonomous Emergency Braking', rear parking sensors, cruise control, lane departure warning and a Quickclear heated windscreen. You also get cool tech such as Ford SYNC 3 Navigation with DAB and an 8-inch touchscreen.

Is the Ford Puma right for me?

It has been very easy for the Puma to grab a slice of the compact SUV action and being a Ford, used examples are very attractive propositions. Alternatives in the SUV market are vast, but the Puma is quite unique due to its compact nature, as it still offers decent space, unlike some competitors.

The Nissan Juke is a good alternative, and is certainly up there with the Puma's unique looks, but the Puma is more spacious. The Volkswagen T-Roc is a more quality-feeling example, but you do have to pay a slight premium with the VW badge and quality.
