Suzuki often implement simple engine line-ups within their vehicles and the Across is no different. You'll only have one powertrain to choose from; a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that produces a total power output of an eyebrow-raising 302bhp. This allows the car to go from 0 to 62mph in as little as 6 seconds.

Being a PHEV, the Across has the ability to drive using pure electric power. Therefore, you'll be able to travel up to 46 miles with zero emissions, which is enough for the daily commute or a week's worth of school runs for most. You'll also be able to achieve up to 282.4mpg with the battery fully charged. Four-wheel drive as standard means the Across is capable off-road too.

The Across possesses light and responsive steering, but it's not the most engaging SUV to drive. It's fairly comfortable though and can soak up most imperfections fairly well, but it won't worry some rivals when it comes to overall comfort.

Practicality and Running Costs

Space in the cabin is good, with plenty of head and legroom being provided. Three adults should be able to comfortably travel in the rear and there's plenty of storage compartments and cubby holes for loose items. You'll also be able to easily fit child seats to the ISOFIX mounting points in the rear thanks to wide-opening doors.

Offering 490 litres, the boot is fairly well-sized and is enough for a few larger bags of luggage. Dropping the rear seats will increase overall carrying capacity to 1,168 litres for the times where you need the extra room. Loading larger and heavier items is also made easier due to a remote-controlled tailgate and no boot lip to get in the way.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

The interior is very well constructed and comes with durable and robust materials. It doesn't have quite as many luxury touches as some rivals, but overall quality is good and you'll get leather upholstery as standard.

From new, there wasn't a lot of optional equipment which is good news for used car buyers as all of the advanced technology comes as standard. This includes keyless entry and start, a 9-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a heated steering wheel.

Whilst the Across hasn't been independently tested, the Toyota RAV4 (the car the Across is based on) was awarded with a full five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP, so hypothetically the Across should score similarly. Across safety equipment includes:
