White Suzuki Swace Exterior Front Driving

The Suzuki Swace is an estate car that offers enough room for a family, low running costs and a good degree of comfort. Sitting towards the top of Suzuki's range, the Swace makes for a great alternative to SUVs such as the Vitara and smaller hatchbacks such as the Baleno.

Estate cars have long been a choice for those that travel regularly and need a decent amount of space to transport their luggage, and the Swace fits this bill quite nicely. Other reasons to consider the Swace as a used car buy include:

  • Good reliability ratings
  • Economical hybrid engine
  • Well-equipped as standard
  • Wide range of available safety equipment

Engines and Driving Experience

White Suzuki Swace Exterior Rear Driving

The Swace doesn't come with a long list of engine variants. Instead, Suzuki have made your life easier and only offer one powertrain; a 1.8-litre petrol hybrid unit that produces 120bhp and can go from 0 to 62mph in 11.1 seconds.

With no higher-powered variant available, the Swace doesn't provide a particularly dynamic driving experience, but it does make the most of its fuel, averaging around 64mpg combined.

When paired with the comfortable suspension setup, this level of efficiency makes the Swace ideal as a mile-muncher. It deals with imperfections on the road with relative ease, but it's firm enough to give the feel of control as opposed to being too floaty.

The automatic CVT gearbox comes as standard, which increases the level of comfort further. It can whine at high revs when you plant your foot, however.

Practicality and Running Costs

Suzuki Swace Boot

There's enough interior room within the Swace for most families. You'll even be able to comfortably travel with three adults in the rear thanks to more than adequate head and legroom throughout. Mounting a child seat to the ISOFIX anchor points in the rear is also made a lot easier thanks to the generous amount of space in the cabin.

With 596 litres of boot space, you won't have too many issues transporting your luggage either. For the times where you do need the extra space, simply fold the 60/40 split-folding rear seats flat and you'll have access to a 1,232-litre space. There's other handy storage compartments and features as well, such as a luggage net.

Thanks to its modest engine, running costs are inexpensive. Insurance ranges between groups 16 and 17 (out of 50) dependent upon specification and low cost servicing can be carried out at your nearest Evans Halshaw dealership.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Suzuki Swace Interior

Complementing the Swace's spacious interior is a dashboard that's well laid-out, with most of the car's functions being controlled through the touchscreen infotainment system. Suzuki haven't abandoned all physical knobs and switches though, a nice balance still remains, allowing you to adjust elements such as the heating controls by feel.

Due to plush and soft-touch plastics, the feel of the cabin is good overall - as is the equipment list. The entry-level 'SZ-T' gets a rear parking camera, heated front seats and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto as standard but the top-of-the-range 'SZ5' unlocks a wireless mobile phone charging pad and BI-LED headlights if your budget can stretch.

A wide range of safety equipment can also be found on the Swace, including:

  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Hill hold control
  • Dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • PCS (Pre-Collision System)

Is the Suzuki Swace right for me?

If you're after a car that's good value for money, comfortable to drive and well-equipped as standard then the Suzuki Swace may be the one for you. Its efficient hybrid powertrain also helps to reduce running costs and get the most out of a tank of fuel.

The Swace is based on the same platform as the Corolla Touring Sports (their name for an estate), but Toyota's version comes with a wider range of engines, so naturally this is the first place to look for alternatives. The popular Ford Focus and Skoda Octavia also have estate variants that are good value for money and highly-rated, so it's worth checking them out too.
