With such a sizeable vehicle, the majority of engines for the Galaxy come in the form of torquey and economical diesel offerings, all using a 2.0-litre EcoBlue engine, with varying levels of performance and economy.
For those wanting maximum economy, the 118bhp version will deliver up to 46mpg. But if you don't like the idea of a diesel engine, the Galaxy was also available with a 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine too. This offered 162bhp, returning around 34mpg.
To drive, the Ford Galaxy fits the mantra of being car-like, a trait many Ford MPVs and SUVs offer. This is great for drivers, as despite the large size, the Galaxy hides its size well and is surprisingly easy to drive, offering a pleasant overall driving experience.

It's no surprise it's a class leader with its vast space. 300 litres of boot space is available with all seats in use, which is pretty good for a seven-seater, as many other seven-seaters with all the seats in use suffer heavily with reduced boot space.
Drop the third row of seats in the Galaxy and you get 700 litres of space. Turn the Galaxy into a van-like vehicle by dropping all the rear seats and you'll benefit from a colossal 2339 litres of space.
Interior, Technology and Safety
The interior of the Ford Galaxy is dominated by space, whilst the driver cockpit features a large 8-inch colour touchscreen infotainment display, which is complemented with an analogue instrument cluster - incorporating digital screens within it, for a clear and good looking set-up.
The Zetec is the entry-level model for the Galaxy and comes with a generous standard spec, with some decent tech featuring the aforementioned Ford Sync 3 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, along with Bluetooth connectivity, DAB radio and Apple CarPlay. The Zetec also features electric-folding mirrors and dual-zone climate control.
A five-star EURO NCAP safety rating also means the Galaxy scores highly in the safety rankings too, further highlighting why this is a class-leading MPV.
Is the Ford Galaxy right for me?
If you are in the market for one of the most practical people carriers available, the Ford Galaxy is a surefire textbook answer. It's no wonder the model is preferred by chauffeur and taxi companies as well as large families.
The Volkswagen Sharan shouldn't be ignored in this MPV class, along with the Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer. The VW is perhaps a better built offering, whereas the Citroën is more stylish. However, both cannot match the Galaxy in terms of overall package.
