Alfa Romeo Junior Green rear city street

The entry point into the Alfa Romeo range and the long-awaited successor to the popular MiTo and Giulietta, the Junior provides comfort through a raised driving position which makes school runs, motorway journeys or trips to the office easier and the dynamic driving modes provides the power, comfort and efficiency to truly enhance your journey.

The Junior sits below the Tonale in the Alfa Romeo line-up and is available with a choice of powertrains. Here's what else you need to know about the Alfa Romeo Junior:

  • Available with mild hybrid (Ibrida) or fully electric (Elettrica) powertrains
  • Up to 280bhp in the performance-focused Veloce variant
  • Segment-leading 415-litre boot space (Ibrida)
  • Driver-angled dashboard and sporty Italian interior
  • Alfa D.N.A. drive mode selector and Level 2 driver assistance technology available
  • Compact without feeling cramped inside

Design and Practicality

The Junior's compact footprint allows it to slip through city traffic and takes the stress out of finding a parking space, while its raised driving position gives the kind of all-round visibility that makes driving in town less fraught.

The Ibrida offers 415 litres of boot space, which Alfa Romeo claims is the largest in its segment, while the Elettrica provides a still-impressive 400 litres. Fold the Ibrida's rear seats, and that rises to 1,265 litres. The rear seating is comfortable for two adults on shorter journeys, though taller passengers may find legroom a little snug on longer trips, which is typical for the class.

Running costs are broadly competitive. The Ibrida's official fuel economy of around 57 to 59mpg combined keeps pump costs reasonable, while the electric variants benefit from lower day-to-day running costs, particularly when charging at home.

Evans Halshaw can service all Alfa Romeo Junior models, whether Ibrida or Elettrica, across our nationwide network of service centres, using the latest diagnostic equipment.

Technology and Safety

Step inside and you'll find the Junior feels sporty for a car of its size. A driver-angled 10.25-inch central touchscreen sits alongside a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and even entry-level models get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

The four-leaf clover air vents aren't just a design touch. The Quadrifoglio symbol dates back to celebrated racing driver Ugo Sivocci, who used it as a personal talisman. After his death during a race, Alfa Romeo adopted it in his memory.

Higher-spec Sport Speciale and Veloce models add Alcantara upholstery, Sabelt sports seats, ambient lighting and 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels respectively. Across all trim levels, standard technology includes an 'Hey Alfa' AI-powered voice assistant, Amazon Alexa integration and Alfa Connected Services.

In terms of safety, all Junior models come well-equipped as standard:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with cyclist and pedestrian detection
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Active Lane Assist
  • Speed Limit Recognition
  • eCall emergency service alert system
  • 360-degree parking sensors and rear camera (optional on some trims)
  • Level 2 assisted driving available via Technology Pack

Engines and Performance

Alfa Romeo Junior Green side city street

The Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida’s 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine is paired with mild hybrid technology. Producing around 136bhp, the smooth performance suits driving around town, where the hybrid system adds refinement and keeps fuel consumption in check.

The Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica is the fully electric option. This model produces around 156bhp and delivers instant torque and effortless acceleration, making it well-suited to both city streets and longer motorway trips.

At the top of the range is the Junior Veloce, one of the most dynamic compact electric SUVs in its class. Producing more power than a petrol Golf GTI, it accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 5.9 seconds. The Veloce is a clear signal that Alfa Romeo hasn’t forgotten its roots, even as it moves into electric motors.

Across the range, the Junior combines responsive steering, composed handling and a comfortable ride, creating a driving experience that feels more engaging than most cars in its class.

Is the Alfa Romeo Junior right for me?

The Alfa Romeo Junior is an excellent choice for drivers who want a compact SUV that stands out from the crowd, whether that's the efficient Ibrida for everyday use, the Elettrica for emissions-free driving or the Veloce for the more performance-minded.

If you'd like alternatives, the slightly more affordable Fiat 600 shares similar underpinnings, while the Vauxhall Mokka offers a striking design at around the same price. The Peugeot e-2008 is also worth considering if electric range is a priority. The Junior’s advantage is that it leans more heavily into sporty driving character, something Alfa Romeo has built its reputation on for decades.
