Used Peugeot 308 for sale

The second-generation Peugeot 308 first appeared in the UK in 2014, also being crowned European Car of the Year in the same year. It offers typical French good looks, a smart interior and a big boot - excellent traits in a modern hatchback.

Since its introduction in 2014, it has been facelifted a few times in 2017 and then again 2020. No matter what generation you go for, thee 308 features;

  • Smart looks
  • Five-door practicality
  • Large boot
  • Underrated appeal

Engines and Driving Experience

Peugeot 308: Driving

Engine choice within the 308 range includes a selection of frugal 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engines with either 108bhp or 130bhp, along with some even more efficient diesel engines, with 113bhp, 129bhp and 147bhp.

Economy is good, with the petrol engines usually returning between 40 and 60mpg - if not more in some instances. Diesel engines return that little bit more, with up to 74mpg possible.

To drive, the 308 offers decent comfort, whether you're behind the wheel of an entry-level model, or the sportier GTi version - all models are fantastically compliant over bumps and make the best of the UK's somewhat questionable quality of certain roads.

Those who lust after performance will love the underrated GTi. With 258bhp it offers 0-62mph in just 5.8 seconds, and despite larger wheels and lowered ride height, it still rides very well.

Practicality and Running Costs

Peugeot 308 Boot

As standard, the 308 comes with 5-doors, hatchback practicality and a massive 470-litre boot. This increases to 1,300 litres when the rear seats are folded. Cabin space is very good, and storage is also excellent - perfect for hiding away all your bits and bobs.

With efficient engines offering great economy, even in the sportier versions, the Peugeot 308 isn't going to drain your bank account either. Servicing is also reasonable, although sports models will have slightly increased prices for consumables, such as the lower profile tyres.

Other than that, the 308 shouldn't be scary to run. You can even take a look at our servicing section, to find out more about using Evans Halshaw for all your official Peugeot parts and servicing queries.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Peugeot 308 Interior

Since the 308's introduction in 2014, the cabin and styling has been tweaked a few times - facelifted - to keep the car current. The overall look and feel still stays true to the original, as the 308 has always been a good-looking affair.

Later cars receive the digital Peugeot i-Cockpit, whilst earlier cars feature crisp analogue dials. The central touchscreen infotainment system is a nice cabin feature and helps give a touch of style and tech to the cabin. Overall, the cabin feels minimalist and classy, with a small steering wheel ensuring the driving experience is even more engaging too.

Upon launch the 308 received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. In 2017 'Claw Effect' rear lights became standard equipment. Like daytime running lights, they are always on, ensuring enhanced style, whilst making the car more visible, boosting safety.

Is the Peugeot 308 right for me?

In a world where hatchbacks are extremely popular, we feel that the Peugeot 308 is rather underrated. Sure, a Ford Focus, VW Golf and Vauxhall Astra are all textbook hatchback choices, but the 308 can more than hold its own with this crowd.

It may even be a clever move to pick the Peugeot, as it features the most stylish interior, and chances are you won't see as many as you would some of the other cars of this type.

As a used car, the 308 is a seriously tempting proposition and as a practical used family car, or an outside the box hot hatch.
