Used Mercedes-Benz GLC For Sale

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a mid-size luxury SUV that is both spacious and comfortable. It provides the prestige car ownership experience with premium styling, high levels of technology and a wonderfully constructed interior.

On sale since 2015, the GLC sits in between the smaller GLA and larger GLE SUVs in the Mercedes-Benz line-up, while there's also a Coupé version that looks cooler but is less practical. Reasons to consider buying a used Mercedes-Benz GLC include:

  • Prestige style and road presence
  • Highly refined and comfortable driving experience
  • Equipped with the latest driver assistance systems
  • All-wheel drive as standard
  • Practical and spacious interior

Engines and Driving Experience

Used Mercedes-Benz GLC Exterior, Front

The vast majority of used GLCs for sale are diesel automatics, and all are equipped with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

GLC 220 d variants are the most popular. With the engine 2.1-litres in size and putting out 168bhp, it's ample quick enough for the majority of drivers and 45-plus mpg should be possible. In 2019 the GLC 220 d changed to Merc's latest 2.0-litre diesel engine with even better economy despite a power increase to 191bhp.

For more power you can seek out GLC 300 d models with 242bhp and a 0 to 62mph sprint time of 6.5 seconds. GLC 43 and GLC 63 S AMG variants provide monstrous acceleration and sporty handling.

Later in the car's production run, diesel plug-in hybrid and petrol mild-hybrid variants joined the line-up, and if you're looking to keep running costs down these may be a good option for you as they increase in availability on the used market.

Practicality and Running Costs

Used Mercedes-Benz GLC Boot Space

Practicality starts up front in the GLC, with not one, but two storage areas in the centre console as well as sizeable door bins so the driver and passenger can stow away their own share-size bag of crisps.

In the rear, there's loads of room for kids and there are two ISOFIX points on the outer seats. It's a genuine 5-seater - even three adults can sit back there in relative comfort thanks to the excellent head and legroom.

Boot space is generous and at 550 litres is identical in capacity to the BMW X3. It also has lots of handy features in the cargo area, such as a lockable false floor in which you can fit the load cover, and rear seats that fold at the press of a button.

Running costs will be similar to that of any mid-size luxury SUV. Fuel economy is decent enough, but when you start replacing things like tyres and brakes, parts will be on the pricier end of the scale. Evans Halshaw dealerships can help keep maintenance costs down, while Stratstone Mercedes-Benz retailers can provide specialist care. The GLC 220 d is in the lowest insurance group.

Interior, Technology and Safety

Used Mercedes-Benz GLC Interior, Dashboard

Modern Mercedes-Benz cars and SUVs do a fantastic job of communicating a luxury feeling as soon as you enter the cabin, and the GLC is no different. With swathes of high quality materials as well as brushed aluminium and gloss-black surfaces, plus super-tactile buttons and switches, you'll enjoy spending time in the GLC.

Technology is strong but not as good as some more recently updated models like the latest BMW X3 or even the smaller (but just as practical) GLB. Standard equipment does include sat nav, an electric tailgate, heated seats and cruise control however.

Is the GLC safe? Yes, very. It has an abundance of standard safety kit that saw it score the full 5-stars when tested by Euro NCAP, including:

  • Full suite of airbags
  • Traction control
  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Attention monitoring

Is the Mercedes-Benz GLC right for me?

The GLC has been designed to appeal to a broad range of buyers, and used GLCs bring affordable luxury to the practical SUV segment. Its handsome looks and high quality interior are backed up by a refined driving experience and excellent ergonomics, making it a strong all-round package.

Competition is fierce in the mid-size luxury SUV market, with cars such as the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 leading the way amongst less common, but equally capable alternatives like the Volvo XC60 and Lexus UX. The super-stylish Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is worth a look, too.
