Introducing the new Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric

Green Renault Twingo Exterior Front with Electric Bikes

The iconic Twingo returns as the Renault Twingo E-Tech, a super-charged (well, electrically charged) city runner. This five-door, mini-sized all-electric is designed for those who want all the benefits of a zero emissions model but just need the size of a compact car for getting around town.

It's one of the smallest cars in Renault's electric range, sitting below the Renault 4 and Renault 5, and much like its siblings, the Twingo offers ultimate urban driving dynamics, as well as out of town capabilities, designed to be the ideal partner for a raft of lifestyles.

Design and Practicality

Green Renault Twingo Exterior Rear Close-Up

Easily recognisable on the outside, the Twingo E-Tech comes with cute looks and fun features such as horseshoe-shaped LED lights front and rear, a smiling grille, and five doors, allowing four adults to sit comfortably inside.

The rear seats offer enough legroom for some fairly long adults and can slide back and forth to balance boot space and legroom. With the rear seats fully forward, you get 360 litres of space (which is impressive for a car of these dimensions), allowing you to prioritise luggage or rear passenger comfort depending on your needs. There is also 50 litres of space under the floor, ideal for storing charging cables and other road accessories.

The rear seats drop 50/50 for extra boot space, and the front passenger seat can also fold down, which ups the Twingo E-Tech's practicality, so longer items can be ferried around.

Technology and Safety

Inside the cabin, you get a 7-inch driver display and a 10-inch touchscreen in the centre, both with fun graphics and animations.

There are two trims available at launch: the Evolution, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™, and Techno, which comes with slightly more bells and whistles, including an OpenR Link system with Google built-in, Google Maps, Google Assistant voice control, and access to over a hundred apps at your fingertips. There is also Reno, an animated co-pilot avatar to assist with a myriad of functions.

To keep you on the straight and narrow, the Renault Twingo E-Tech is full of driver assist and safety features. In fact, it comes with 24 of them, which include some really great features:

  • Occupant safe exit alert
  • Front, rear and side park assist
  • Hands-free parking
  • Rear detection with emergency lane correction (with blind spot warning)
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Six airbags

Powertrains and Performance

As a compact city car, the Twingo is superbly agile, making for a unique driving experience. With a single electric motor that delivers 83bhp, the Twingo takes 12.1 seconds to go from 0 to 62mph. Now this doesn't sound fast on paper, but with instant torque, it certainly feels zippier than what its figures suggest - ideal for battling rush hour traffic.

With an electronically-capped top speed of 81mph the Twingo is also fairly competent for journeys on bigger roads, too. Yes, you may need to be more forward-thinking with overtakes, but it's no less suitable for motorways than traditionally-powered options in the same segment.

Overall, this is a vehicle that prioritises nimbleness and spirit, making for a perfect companion for everyday life.

Charging

Green Renault Twingo Exterior Side Charging

The Renault Twingo is designed for short-haul journeys, offering a range of around 163 miles on a full charge from its 27.5kWh battery.

It supports 11kW AC charging and up to 50kW DC rapid charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. For drivers who will mostly use the Twingo for town-to-town trips or city driving, this charging speed should be more than sufficient. It also comes with a Type 2 cable as standard, compatible with most home chargers and public charging stations.

Like all E-Tech models, charging functions can be managed through the My Renault app, where you can schedule charging to take advantage of off-peak tariffs, monitor charging progress, and find nearby compatible charging stations.
