Introducing the MG HS Hybrid+ and Plug-In Hybrid

MG HS Pair

The MG HS Hybrid+ joins the MG HS Plug-In Hybrid for those looking for a large MG SUV with electric assistance. However, if preferred, there is also a sole internal combustion engine alternative in the form of the MG HS.

This MG HS Hybrid+ is the latest evolution of the multiple HS SUV models on offer from MG. No matter your preference, you are getting the largest SUV in the MG range, sitting above the ZS SUV, and other models such as the MG4 and MG5.

Whether its the MG HS Hybrid+ or MG HS Plug-In Hybrid, you'll have several trims to choose from, along with a 7-year/80,000-mile warranty.

Design and Practicality

MG HS Hybrid + Side Angle

Both electrified versions of the MG HS feature a more sleek and sophisticated aura about them, combined with a longer wheelbase than the generation it replaces, which helps increase interior cabin space, and of course, practicality.

The MG HS as a whole features shorter overhangs, with each model in the range, no matter if solely internal combustion, or with hybrid assistance, being 14mm wider than its predecessor, whilst enhanced by a sleeker profile due to the reduction of 30mm in height.

MG have ensured that no matter which HS model you opt for, the boot size is still the same. This is also increased by 44 litres over the predecessor, meaning this family SUV now has a 507-litre boot.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

MG HS Hybrid + Interior

The interior of the MG HS range features a pair of prominent high-definition, fully digital 12.3-inch displays, consisting of the instrument cluster and infotainment screen.

As standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay can help you stay connected, and keep things familiar, being displayed crisply on the central screen.

Safety tech is also impressive, with MG HS models all featuring LED headlights, rear parking sensors and camera, and cruise control as standard.

All versions of the HS also benefit the enhanced MG Pilot Package, which includes:

  • Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System
  • Blind Spot Detection and Lane Change Assist

Engines and Performance

MG HS Hybrid + Front Angle

There are two MG HS models with hybrid assistance. If you opt for the MG HS Hybrid+, you'll get a 1.5-litre petrol turbocharged engine, accompanied by a self-charging electric motor, for a combined 221bhp. This offers 0 to 62mph in 7.9 seconds, whilst delivering 51mpg.

Alternatively, the MG HS Plug-In Hybrid also uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, combined with an electric motor. This gives a total power of 295bhp, meaning 0 to 62mph drops to 6.8 seconds, whilst also offering economy of up to an incredible 705mpg, due to the SUV's ability to run on electric power only, up to 75 miles.

Charging

The MG HS Hybrid+ is a self-charging hybrid, so there is no need to plug in to charge.

On the other hand, the MG HS Plug-In Hybrid MG HS can be fully recharged in 4.5 hours using a 7kW fast charger.

Other charging options will take longer, depending on the charging method and the setup selected.
