Introducing the new MG5 EV
The MG5 you see here builds on the success of its predecessor with a much more sophisticated appearance and more daily usability.
As one of few fully-electric estate cars on sale, the MG5 is an award-winning model that offers plenty of interesting features, technology and standard kit.
Discover it all in more detail below.
Design and Practicality
Sporting a much cleaner, sharper and more sophisticated design on the exterior, the interior has also received a much improved and enhanced going over.
MG5's exterior is much more slick and for an estate car it features angles and styling to make it look more aggressive and handsome.
The interior has evolved to give the whole car a much more grown-up and sleeker vibe, with gloss black and silver detailing to give the car a more premium feel.
Being an estate, the MG5 is properly practical too, with a massive 580-litre boot, which increases to 1,367 litres when you fold the rear seats.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Interior technology and overall feel has been significantly enhanced over the MG5's first generation.
It now features a fully-digital 7-inch digital instrument cluster, complemented by a sharp 10.25 inch infotainment display, which both give the interior a properly digital and premium feel.
Being an MG, standard tech is generous, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming as standard.
Safety kit is also decent, with MG Pilot - a dedicated package containing impressive features coming as standard, these include:
- Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection
- Traffic Jam Assist
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System
- Intelligent High Beam Assist
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist
- Adaptive Cruise Control
Range and Performance
Being fully-electric, the MG5 has no engine. Instead, it uses an electric motor and battery combination.
Keeping it simple, there are two models/trims to choose from, an SE Long Range or a Trophy Long Range - with both using the same 57kWh set-up which produces 154bhp.
This gives decent performance, with the MG5 accelerating from 0 to 62mph in circa 7.3 seconds, which is far from slow and will easily feel brisk amongst regular traffic. The MG5 will also be able to give a range of up to 326 miles for city driving, or combined, the MG5 can deliver around 250 miles.
Charging
Charging times as ever will depend on set-up or method chosen.
Estimated rapid charging can take around 35 minutes - using a 150kW public charger (10 to 80 percent).
A 50kW public charger takes around an hour (10 to 80 percent), whilst overnight 7kW wallbox charging can take around 10 hours.
