Introducing the new MG4 EV
This is the very first all-electric model from MG, with the car taking what you know about the MG brand and shaking it up quite a bit.
A sharper design language and a choice of bold colours ensure the MG4 doesn't like to blend in.
The inclusion of a high-performance XPOWER version adds an extra layer of intrigue, promising an exhilarating driving experience that pushes boundaries.
With its vibrant design and innovative approach, the MG4 signifies not only a commitment to sustainability but also a departure from the ordinary, making it a compelling and dynamic choice in the evolving landscape of electric vehicles.
Design and Practicality
Distinctive design is the mantra for the MG4, with a range of six vibrant colours to ensure there's no mistaking this car for anything else on the road.
Even on the entry-level 'SE' specification, the MG4 looks sharp with 17-inch alloy wheels which come as standard, along with a choice of smart colours.
Trophy specification gives the MG4 more of a standout vibe, with Volcano Orange paint available, along with larger 18-inch alloy wheels.
XPOWER models give much more dynamic details - such as orange brake calipers and yellow detailing showcasing their enhanced performance nature.
As for practicality, with five doors as standard the MG4 is easy to access, complemented by a large 363-litre boot and lots of internal cubby holes for storing all your bits and bobs.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Technology is decent with the MG4 thanks to a digital 7-inch driver's display, complemented by a 10.25-inch floating infotainment touchscreen, which give the cabin a smart and up-to-date digital vibe.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, meaning for those who don't like learning new infotainment systems, staying connected will be an absolute doddle.
Safety is also excellent when looking at the MG4. It received the maximum five-star Euro NCAP crash test and comes with the following safety features (depending on trim):
- MG Pilot driver assistance
- Adaptive cruise control
- Driver attention alert
- Traffic sign recognition
- Intelligent high beam assist
- Blind spot monitoring
- Lane change assist
Range and Performance
Being the first fully-electric car from MG, the MG4 doesn't feature an internal combustion engine, but an electric motor and battery combination. There are three to choose from:
- 51kWh - 168bhp, 0 to 62mph in circa 7.5 seconds, up to 218 miles combined range
- 64kWh (long range) - 200bhp, 0 to 62mph in circa 7.7 seconds, up to 270–281 miles combined range
- 77kWh (Extended range)- 242bhp, 0 to 62mph in circa 6.1 seconds, up to 323 miles combined range
For those who want sports car pace, MG4 is also available in an XPOWER model.
- 64kWh XPOWER - 429bhp, 0 to 62mph in 3.8 seconds, all-wheel drive, up to 239 miles combined range
Trims include SE, SE Long Range, Trophy Long Range, and Trophy Extended Range.
Charging
Charging will vary depending on model and charging set-up used.
Using a domestic socket, an overnight charge will take circa 14 hours.
A 7kW wallbox will see the charge time last around five hours from 20 to 80 percent.
Where rapid charging is available, you can charge an MG4 (from 10 to 80 percent) in around 30 minutes.
