Introducing the new MG HS
This is the new HS, an evolution of MG's large SUV, which is the largest vehicle MG offers, sitting above the ZS SUV and the rest of the MG range.
MG HS now been updated and showcases an extensive range of new features, enhanced cabin space, whilst also featuring sharper styling.
It will be available in a number of trims, whilst also offering a choice of a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT transmission, whilst being an MG, it will of course offer fine value and decent practicality.
It's worth noting, that like all new MG models, the new MG HS will come with a 7-year/80,000-mile warranty.
Design and Practicality
The design of the new MG HS features a more sophisticated vibe, combined with a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, for enhanced space within the cabin.
Shorter overhangs also make up the design, whilst the car is also 14mm wider than its predecessor, too. However, the sleeker profile is achieved due to a reduction in height by 30mm.
Thanks to the larger and sleeker proportions, practicality is benefitted, with boot capacity increasing by 44 litres, meaning this large SUV now has a 507-litre boots, whilst driver and passenger will also benefit from upgraded comfort and storage options within the cabin, too.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
There's a pair of prominent high-definition, fully digital 12.3-inch displays, consisting of the instrument cluster and infotainment screen.
The central infotainment screen hosts things like weather and live traffic updates, along with smartphone connectivity like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Safety tech is also impressive, as the standard specification of features includes full LED headlights, rear parking sensors and camera, and cruise control.
All versions of the HS also benefit the enhanced MG Pilot Package, which includes:
- Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System
- Blind Spot Detection and Lane Change Assist
Engines and Performance
The new MG HS offers a choice of petrol or PHEV plug-in hybrid powertrains.
Petrol versions consist of a 1.5-litre unit which produces 167bhp, which offers suitable acceleration for a large SUV, with 0 to 62mph taking 9.4 seconds, along with the choice of a 6-speed manual transmission, whilst a 7-speed DCT automatic is also available.
The PHEV versions consists of a 1.5-litre petrol engine, mated with a 154kW electric motor. The motor draws its power from a 24.7kWh battery and can offer up to 75 miles of electric-only driving.
Due to the increased overall power, the 0 to 62mph time drops to 6.8 seconds.
Charging
MG HS Plug-in Hybrid versions can fully recharge in 4.5 hours using a 7kW fast charger.
Other charging options will take longer, depending on charging method and set-up selected.
