Design and Practicality
The ZS features a stylish SUV profile sitting nicely on 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, which come as standard.
Chunky SUV looks give the ZS its popular look, whilst the electric version gets a smoother and sleeker design, as the need for a grille is not needed.
There's plenty of practicality too, thanks to plenty of interior space and a decent 448-litre boot, which increases to a capacious 1,375 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
Interestingly, the electric version also offers a slightly bigger boot, with 470 litres, however with the seats folded, it's slightly less than the regular petrol version, with 1,100 litres.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
There's plenty of tech on offer with the MG ZS. Choose the entry-level 'Excite' specification, and you'll get a smart 10.1-inch colour infotainment touchscreen complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it super easy and safe to stay connected.
Step it up a trim to the 'Exclusive' and you'll benefit from a fully-digital driver instrument display, 360-degree parking camera and leather upholstery. PHEV versions get a little more kit too, with the Trophy version offering wireless charging.
Safety kit is also generous and includes multiple airbags, emergency brake assist and hill launch assist as standard. Exclusive models also feature Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Engines and Performance
MG like to keep things neat and simple, and so there are two engine options to choose from with the ZS, along with a two fully-electric alternatives, which offer the best acceleration, along with a decent range.
For ease, these are listed below:
- 1.5-litre manual - 105bhp, 0 to 62mph circa 10.4 seconds, circa 42mpg
- 1.0-litre auto - 109bhp, 0 to 62mph circa 12 seconds, circa 39mpg
- 1.0-litre manual - 109bhp, 0 to 62mph circa 10.5 seconds, circa 42mpg
- 51kWh electric - 174bhp, 0 to 62mph circa 8 seconds, up to 198-mile range
- 73kWh electric - 154bhp, 0 to 62mph circa 8.2 seconds, up to 273-mile range
Charging
For the electric MG ZS, charging times will of course vary depending on your set-up or charging method chosen.
Charging overnight will usually see the MG ZS EV charge fully between 8 and 10.5 hours, depending on wallbox uses.
Rapid charging can take as low as 36 minutes using a 100kW public rapid charger.
