Used Ford Fiesta for sale

The Ford Fiesta is one of those cars that doesn't really need an introduction, such has been their immense popularity over the course of the past decade.

In fact, it was the previous generation of Fiesta (the one you see on this page) that really propelled the supermini ahead of its rivals, where it has remained firmly ever since.

Although the current Fiesta has been on sale for a little while now, the previous model still makes a compelling used car purchase. Here's why in a nutshell:

  • Represents excellent value for money
  • Fun to drive
  • Well equipped throughout the range
  • Clean and efficient engines
  • Servicing and tax is affordable

Engines and Driving Experience

Typically, a fun driving experience is reserved for a model's performance variants. And while the Fiesta ST is an absolute hoot to drive, thanks to its turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine that produces 182bhp, the standard models offer genuine thrills too.

The most popular motor is the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, which is available with either 98bhp, 123bhp, or 138bhp. Regardless of choice, over 60mpg is achievable with mixed driving, with CO2 hovering around 100g/km.

If you do a lot of miles every year, then the 1.5-litre TDCi diesel unit is worthy of consideration. It's available in two outputs, 73bhp and 93bhp respectively, which doesn't make the Fiesta particularly swift, but it makes up for this by returning up to 88.3 mpg on a combined cycle.

Whatever version of the Fiesta you go for, you'll benefit from an adjustable driving position that offers excellent visibility.

Practicality and Running Costs

Despite being a supermini, the Fiesta is reasonably practical and makes sense if you're a young driver or have just started a family. Three door versions are common, although models with five doors make it easy to mount a child's seat into the Isofix anchor points.

Boot space is pretty decent, with 290 litres available with the rear seats folded up and 974 litres with them folded down. The wide boot opening and low loading lip maximise the boot's available space, making it ideal for day-to-day errands and weekly shopping.

Running costs across the range are very good, although you'll have to pay more during your ownership if you want the Fiesta ST, but even then it'll hardly break the bank. As an authorised Ford retailer, we offer preferential servicing rates on older Fiestas through the Ford Essential Servicing programme, making regular maintenance more affordable.

Interior, Technology and Safety

As you'd expect from Ford, the interior of the Fiesta feels well-thought out and robust. And although the infotainment system feels a little dated by today's standards, it still offers excellent everyday usability and slick smartphone connectivity thanks to the standard Bluetooth.

A unique feature that all Fiestas possess is a heated front windscreen, which is a real benefit during those frosty mornings in the depths of winter.

Air-conditioning and DAB radio are standard across the range, too. The ST-Line offers sportier seats if that's your flavour, while the lavish Titanium gets cruise control, climate control, and a special Sony radio.

The Fiesta was given a five star Euro NCAP safety rating when it was tested in 2012, which came courtesy of the following features:

  • Seven airbags fitted to each model
  • Electronic stability control
  • Anti-lock brakes (ABS)
  • Active City Stop (optional extra)
  • Ford Emergency Assistance (standard on Titanium models)

Is the Ford Fiesta right for me?

There's certainly no denying the credentials of this generation Fiesta, the countless accolades and the fact it's Britain's best selling car is testament to that.

It's clear from the above that if you need a smart-looking supermini that is well-equipped, safe, and affordable to run on a daily basis, then the Fiesta would serve you well. There's always plenty to choose from as an added bonus.

Depending on your budget, the latest Fiesta would be an excellent choice because of its updated interior and engine choices. Consider the Volkswagen Polo if you want a supermini with a premium edge, and be sure to take a look at the Hyundai i20 or Kia Rio if you want something outside the norm.
