Introducing the Dacia Logan MCV
The Logan MCV is a super-practical estate car offered by Dacia, and has been in the UK since 2012.
Although its larger sibling, the Duster, is a more common sight on Britain's road, the Logan MCV is a great alternative for families who need the extra space, but don't want an SUV.
One of the Logan's biggest selling points is the sheer level of practicality on offer for such a reasonable outlay. In fact, you'll be hard pushed to find a new car with this much space inside for the same money. MCV stands for "Maximum Capacity Vehicle", and Dacia have really delivered on that front.
Don't think Dacia have cut corners either, because you'll be pleasantly surprised to hear that there are a number of desirable features available that make the Logan a wise investment. Read about them below.
Design and Practicality
It probably should go without saying, but as an estate car, the Logan MCV is as practical as family cars get. However, what impresses most is how Dacia have managed to maximise the Logan to its full potential.
Inside, there is acres of room for the whole family. The high roofline means taller passengers are catered for, while the large footwells leave plenty of space for even the leggiest of people. Joining the handy 60:40 split folding rear bench are two isofix anchor points for child seats.
Boot space is suitably massive as you'd imagine. With the seats up there is 573 litres for you to use, while that number nearly triples to 1,680 litres once the rear seats have been folded flat. Completing the package are roof bars, which come as standard.
Technology and Safety
You'd forgive Dacia for placing a low priority on technology and desirable goodies given the low retail price.
Remarkably, the Logan comes with a host of safety features as standard, and can be configured with all the mod cons you'd expect from cars that command a higher price tag.
Manual air conditioning and front electric windows come as standard on the mid-range 'Essential' model, while technology such as cruise control and rear parking sensors are reserved for the 'Comfort' variant.
The following safety features come as standard:
- Hill Start Assist
- Tyre pressure monitor
- Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
- Anti-lock braking system(ABS)
- Front side airbags
- Driver and passenger airbag
Economy and Performance
There's a wide variety of engines to choose from, with each one offering different traits.
The 1.5-litre diesel engine is a well-established unit that offers excellent pulling power and fuel economy. With emissions only topping 136 g/km and up to 64.2 mpg available on a combined cycle, it's a great option for families who do large distances every year.
A 1.0-litre petrol engine is available, which offers 75 bhp and is ideal for pottering around the city. Expect close to 50 mpg from this unit. Alternatively, there is the 0.9-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which offers more flexibility on the open road and still returns 47 mpg (combined)
If none of these suit you, then a bi-fuel LPG (liquid petroleum gas) engine is available. This model enjoys lower emissions and better economy alongside a quieter drive in general.
