Introducing the Dacia Sandero
The Dacia Sandero was introduced to the UK market back in 2012 and has remained a strong seller ever since. There's a variety of reasons for this, but a lot of it comes down to the sheer amount of car you get for such a reasonable outlay.
In fact, the Sandero is held in such high regard, it has consistently won the WhatCar? Car of the Year 2020 award for best value car less than £10,000.
Another great thing about the Sandero is that it can cater to every budget. The entry-level 'Access' package is a winner for those who want to derive the most value from a car, while the top spec 'Comfort' model adds in a host of goodies for much less than you'd think!
Design and Practicality
Despite the immense value on offer with the Sandero, it manages to offer the most space inside compared to other new cars that can be had for similar money. Passengers will enjoy plenty of leg room, even if they're in the back. There's even a lot of head room thanks to the tall roof line that doesn't slope down.
Superminis traditionally don't have the biggest boot in the world, but the Sandero is more than adequate with its 320 litre capacity. Better yet, fold the rear seats down and there's a substantial 1,200 litres to play with.
The interior design of the Sandero is functional and instantly familiar. The materials used feel like they could easily take years of abuse, while the layout itself is simplistic and easy to navigate.
Technology and Safety
Unless you require some properly space-age technology, chances are the Sandero will have everything you need, plus more besides.
It's possible to spec a multimedia system with satellite navigation and DAB radio, which can be complemented by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for extra connectivity. Manual air conditioning can be had from the mid-range 'Essential' version.
You don't have to compromise on your safety with the Sandero, despite the reasonable price. Electronic Stablity Control (ESC) is joined by Traction Control and Hill Start Assist for peace of mind when driving.
The tyre pressure monitor is a must-have and will help you keep on top of tyre maintenance, while the Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) gives you extra stopping power when you need it most.
Economy and Performance
Much like the rest of the Sandero, the engines made available by Dacia punch well above their weight. There are two petrol engines to choose from, and a single bi-fuel engine if you want it.
The first choice, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that produces 75 bhp, is a great choice if you're mainly driving in the city. The low emissions (129-131 g/km) help reduce your carbon footprint, and you should see 48 mpg on a combined cycle.
The next choice is a 0.9-litre turbocharged engine that produces 90 bhp. Don't let the small size fool you, this engines pulls consistently throughout the rev range, all while returning 47 mpg (combined).
The petrol/LPG (liquid petroleum gas) option is ideal if you want better running costs (49 mpg combined), lower CO2 emissions, and a quieter engine. Better yet, the refillable tank doesn't take away from the boot space!
There's something endearing about a no-nonsense car that gets the job done without hesitation. That's the Access for you!
