Being a Tesla, there is no engine. Instead you get a fully-electric motor powering the Model Y.
Model Y is available with 347bhp and rear-wheel drive. This version has a range of up to 283 miles and can complete 0 to 62mph in 6.6 seconds.
A more potent four-wheel drive version comes with 384bhp with a range of up to 334 miles. 0 to 62mph in this variant drops to 4.8 seconds.
And in typical Tesla fashion, there's a supercar taunting performance version with 426bhp too, again with four-wheel drive. This offers up to 319 miles of range and can go from 0 to 62mph in just 3.5 seconds.
To drive, it mirrors the Model 3, meaning there's little body roll, giving the Model Y a nice agile feel. It's sure to raise smiles in the four-wheel drive versions due to its uncanny acceleration, although riding on 20-inch alloy wheels, the ride can be firm and harsh on poor road surfaces.
Practicality and Running Costs
Practicality in the Tesla Model Y is very good. There's plenty of space for five people and with a 854-litre boot, you shouldn't struggle when visiting your well-known Swedish furniture shop or the like.
Space increases to 2,041 litres with the push of a button which drops the rear seats. The interior also has plenty of storage comprising of a large cubby hole under the armrest, along with sizable door bins.
Running costs are attractive with around 300 miles from a charge, which should be cheaper than comparative ICE cars.
Tesla's charging network is also handy when out and about too, and should help with keeping running costs reasonable.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
The interiors of Tesla models are very modern and clutter free. Almost everything is controlled through the iPad-like 15.4-inch infotainment screen.
It can seem very alien if the Model Y happens to be your first Tesla, but if you're coming from another Tesla model, it will feel second nature.
Overall technology is properly impressive, with the ability to play games, watch YouTube videos and connect to your favourite apps - when stationary or legally, of course.
