Grey Skoda Fabia Exterior Front

The Skoda Fabia is a subtly brilliant supermini that offers great value for money and a generously sized boot. Sitting underneath the Scala, but above the Citigo, the Fabia is one of the smaller cars within Skoda's range.

But with the Fabia, size doesn't compromise quality. Skoda have managed to include the usual handy tools, such as an umbrella holder in the door, and a variety of benefits that make this roomy supermini a suitable option, such as:

  • Good amount of available technology
  • Practical estate bodystyle on offer
  • Excellent safety rating
  • Comfortable ride

Discover the features of the Skoda Fabia in more detail below.

Engines and Driving Experience

Grey Skoda Fabia Exterior Rear

The latest generation of Fabia (2021 onwards) comes with a simple range of 1.0-litre petrol engines, the only difference is the power output at either 59 or 93bhp . As you'd expect the punchier, higher-powered specification is more fun to drive.

The preceding generation (2014 to 2021) comes with a similar, yet slightly wider, line-up of 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines. The main difference is that a diesel is also available, which is more suited to long trips.

But don't let that put you off, the Skoda Fabia provides long-range comfort no matter which engine you opt for. For a supermini, the chassis effectively deals with any bumps in the road and offers good road noise control. A heavy right foot can prompt a throaty engine note, but when you've had your fun, simply let off the throttle and the engine will return to its quiet and refined self.

Practicality and Running Costs

Skoda Fabia Boot

Skoda have become known for practicality and the Fabia abides by being a class-topping contender when it comes to boot space. The latest generation is slightly larger than its predecessor and has 380 litres of boot space, which is more than enough for the shopping. The 'simply clever' pack can also be found on used examples, offering a number of practical extras such as a boot storage compartment.

If you're transporting larger cargo, dropping the back seats increases available space to 1,150 litres. Alternatively, the bigger estate bodystyle is even more practical, offering 530 litres as standard or 1,395 litres with the seats dropped.

Running costs are also low, the highest insurance group for the latest model is 9 (out of 50), or 14 for the previous edition. All Evans Halshaw dealerships are well-equipped to take care of any servicing or maintenance requirements.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Skoda Fabia Interior

Superminis often struggle to provide their occupants with a spacious interior, especially in the rear, but not the Skoda Fabia. A couple of adults will comfortable fit in the back, whilst the driver and front passenger also enjoy a roomy position. The build quality is also good but not quite as aesthetically pleasing as others in its class.

The entry level S provides a basic standard list of equipment, but many of the optional bits of technology can be found on some used S models or higher specification examples. Amundsen satellite-navigation, Smartlink+ phone connectivity and parking sensors are all examples of available kit.

Surprise surprise, Skoda have hit the ball out of the park again when it comes to safety. The full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating has been awarded to the Fabia thanks to a list of safety features, such as:

  • Driver fatigue system
  • Blind spot detection
  • Rear view camera
  • Light assistant

Is the Skoda Fabia right for me?

Remember the iconic sound of music-backed noughties advertisement, where Skoda hired a bunch of bakers to make a life-sized Fabia out of cake? Well, since then, the Fabia has become one of the go-to cars within the supermini class and is still as sweet as its confectionary replica.

If you're looking to impress your friends, competitors such as the Ford Fiesta or Peugeot 208 are arguably more stylish on the road. The Volkswagen Polo and Audi A1 are also more premium and built out of better materials.

But the Skoda Fabia is more practical and provides excellent value for money. It could easily become one of your 'favourite things'.
