First available in the UK back in 2012, the stylish Peugeot 208 was the successor to the Peugeot 207. It carried on nicely the typical Parisian style we see in many Peugeot hatchbacks, being nicely proportioned and available in 3-door, or a slightly more practical 5-door.

Engines and Driving Experience
A comprehensive range of engines are available with the Peugeot 208, comprising various petrol and diesel versions. Turbocharging is used in many of the engines to aid performance and economy, meaning most of the engines go well with the compact proportions of the car, for a pleasing and comfortable driving experience.
The entry-level 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo is pretty decent, if a touch leisurely in performance terms, but it does offer good economy. On the other hand if it's performance you're after in your 208, then the GTi version offers 0-62mph is just over 6.5 seconds, whilst still able to return over 50mpg.
However, if it's seriously impressive economy you need, certain diesel versions of the 208 can return a huge 80mpg alongside super-low annual road tax (model year dependent).
Practicality and Running Costs
With the option of 3 or 5-doors, the Peugeot 208 can be tailored to be more practical if needed. Its hatchback bodystyle is also pretty easy to live with, as is the case with most hatchback cars.
Boot space is a respectable 285 litres, which increases to 1,076 litres with the rear seats folded. At under 4 metres long and just over 2 metres wide, the Peugeot 208 is also a doddle to navigate around narrow city streets and tight car parks.

Interior, Technology and Safety
Standard tech is very good, with a smart central infotainment touchscreen coming as standard on all 208s since 2015, meaning the cabin certainly doesn't feel outdated alongside more modern cars. Other standard features include Mirror Screen technology, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth/USB connectivity, and steering wheel-mounted controls.
The cabin itself is very premium feeling for a small car and the style definitely comes through well. A small, sporty steering wheel ensures the drive is rich in feel and the dials therefore sit above the steering wheel, a unique view for sure but an appealing one all the same.
Safety is good too, with the Peugeot 208 scoring a five star Euro NCAP score back when it was launched in 2012.

Small Peugeot hatchbacks have always had a certain style and charm about them. Not the most popular on the road, but by no means the least popular.
