Design and Practicality
One of many standout features of the IONIQ 9 is its futuristic, standout looks. Large SUVs of this ilk often have to sacrifice sleek looks, but thanks to an intelligent design language, the IONIQ 9 retains a strong aesthetic. A 'pixel-fused' theme makes up much of the exterior lighting, while a smooth silhouette creates a surprisingly low drag coefficient, leading to impressive efficiency for a car of this size.
Moving inside, the bar doesn't drop. Depending on your chosen specification, there's space for up to seven people, while further features such as a swivelling second row of seats, which allows you to create a 'lounge' while the car is stationary, deliver optimal versatility.
Boot space is a staggering 908 litres with the third row of seats folded flat, topping out at 2,419 litres with all rear seats folded. EVs don't get much more practical than that.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
As innovative as they come, the IONIQ 9 features a plethora of high-end technology to make your driving experience ever-connected. Hyundai's intelligent AI assistant, which leverages ChatGPT, is just one example, acting as your personal assistant, with voice commands controlling much of the vehicle's equipment.
There are a range of customisable options too, thanks to the 'Features on Demand' system, to make your IONIQ 9 feel your own. WiFi-hotspot, digital side mirrors, and a dynamic welcome are particular highlights, but the list is almost endless. All of the IONIQ 9's tech is housed within a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, equipped with Apple Carplay/Android Auto for a more familiar approach, if preferred.
Safety features come in the masses too, with the likes of a level 2 autonomous driving mode (highway assist 2), a surround-view monitor, and multiple collision avoidance systems delivering optimal safety for complete peace of mind.
Powertrains and Performance
The IONIQ 9 is powered by a choice of three all-electric powertrains, with each being powered by a 110.3kWh battery:
- Long Range RWD: Rear-wheel drive, 214bhp, 0 to 62mph in 8.8 seconds, 160kW rear motor.
- Long Range AWD: All-wheel drive, 303bhp, 0 to 62mph in 6.3 seconds, 16kW rear motor and 66kW front motor.
- Performance AWD: All-wheel drive, 421bhp, 0 to 62mph in 4.9 seconds, 157kw motors front and rear.
Regardless of which powertrain you opt for, you can expect impressive performance while going about your daily activities. Thanks to a low drag coefficient and intelligent design, you're able to achieve up to 385 miles of range before needing a recharge. Additionally, you can also tow up to 2,500kg, with the car's tech automatically detecting the towed weight and adjusting its predicted range to reflect the load.
Charging
Much like the rest of its characteristics, charging the IONIQ 9 is as innovative as it gets. With both 400v and 800v charging capabilities, it offers you the greatest level of flexibility and allows you to charge at differing chargers, should one be occupied.
In terms of charging times, you can go from 10 to 80 percent battery charge in as little as 24 minutes when using an ultra-rapid charger. A complete charge at home will take approximately 10 hours, allowing you to prepare your car for the next day once back home.
Another handy feature is the Vehicle-to-Load technology, which is also found on other Hyundai EVs such as the IONIQ 5. Simply plug a device into the vehicle's 230V socket and watch your vehicle share its charge.
