Ford Fiesta Van Exterior

The Ford Fiesta Van is a compact and dependable used choice that is heavily based on the popular and much loved Ford Fiesta hatchback.

There aren't many car-based vans on the market, so they're somewhat niche, but if you don't really like the idea of a more traditional van, a car-based van could well be the ideal solution.

Direct competition includes the Vauxhall Corsa Van and Renault ZOE Van which are also rather similar to their car equivalents.

There are plenty of reasons to consider a used Ford Fiesta van which include:

  • Feels and looks like a Ford Fiesta
  • Drives exactly like a car
  • Well-equipped
  • Economical
  • Not as bulky as a regular van

Economy, Towing, and Performance

Ford Fiesta Van Rear

From 2018, the Ford Fiesta Van came with a number of familiar engines available in both petrol and diesel, offering various levels of decent economy.

  • 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol with 94bhp offering up to 55mpg
  • 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol with 123bhp offering up to 64mpg or 70mpg with the later mHEV assisted engine
  • 1.1-litre Ti-VCT with 84bhp offering 56mpg
  • 1.5-litre TDCi diesel with either 84bhp or 124bhp offering up to 74mpg and 67mpg respectively

Later models from 2020 were petrol only, using the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engines with the same power outputs and returned more realistic economy figures between 44mpg and 65mpg.

Performance is decent, with the later award-winning EcoBoost engines feeling punchy and ensuring the van is fun to drive. 0 to 62mph is in the region of 10 seconds.

As for towing capacity, it all depends on specification, with figures ranging from 560kg to 610kpg unbraked and 900kg to 1,100kg braked.

Bodystyles, Payload, and Capacity

Ford Fiesta Van Exterior

The Ford Fiesta van comes in the simplistic car-based van bodystyle, which when specified in a black paint finish looks uncannily similar to a 3-door Fiesta with tinted windows. This is ideal for those want a van, but perhaps don't want it to stand out like a sore thumb.

Payloads again will depend on exact specification, but range from 508kg to 531kg.

Being based on the Fiesta car, the rear seats have essentially been replaced by a flat load area which is more resistant to damage, and has a steel bulkhead to separate the passenger compartment from the load area - which features the following capacities:

  • Max load length: 1,283mm
  • Max load height: 923mm
  • Max load width: 1,281mm
  • Max load volume: 0.96 cubic metre

Interior, Technology, and Safety

Ford Fiesta Van Interior

Vans aren't renowned for their plush interiors, but with the Fiesta Van being heavily based on its car sibling, much of the car vibe is present, meaning the interior is excellent.

There's a clear and striking infotainment screen, crisp instruments and comfortable seats. Models from late 2020 came standard with FordPass Connect 4G Wi-Fi, meaning Over-The-Air software updates could be downloaded to keep the van feeling bang up to date.

Two trim levels 'Fiesta Van' and 'Fiesta Sport Van' are available, with the latter being more popular and more striking to look at, which is why this is now the only trim available, with the former only available for fleet purposes.

Standard equipment includes DAB radio, auto headlights, remote locking and heated mirrors. As for safety, it's a Ford, so it's all good, and various features which include:

  • Lane-Keeping Alert
  • Electronic stability control
  • Automatic lights
  • Driver and passenger airbags
  • Quickclear heated windscreen

Is the Ford Fiesta Van right for me?

If you're in the market for a compact van for small deliveries or the like, then the Fiesta van may be the ideal solution. It's uncannily like a regular Fiesta so will be ideal for those not wanting a bulky van, and as mentioned it can be mistaken for a car due to its similarities to its car sibling - which is no bad thing.

In terms of rivals, we'd recommend looking at the Vauxhall Corsa Van and Renault ZOE Van. They aren't as stylish or as good to drive as the Fiesta Van, but they are very much like their car equivalents.

It may be also worth checking out the Dacia Duster Commercial, which is based on the popular Dacia Duster SUV if you want a car-like experience with a tad more space and higher ground clearance.
