Engines and Driving Experience
Despite the chunky SUV presence, many of the engines available in the Duster are petrol, with just a few diesel options, along with an LPG biofuel choice too.
The entry-level TCe 100 is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, 98bhp petrol engine offers plenty of punch and good economy, with 46mpg possible. Larger 1.6-litre petrol engines are also available, but a good sweet spot is the 1.3-litre, as it offers 147bhp and features the quickest 0-62mph time of 9.4 seconds, whilst still able to return 44mpg.
The diesel engines are 1.5-litre units, and can offer 60mpg, whilst the biofuel engines return around 35mpg - but you save money when buying LPG, which at the time of writing is about half the price of petrol per litre.
To drive, the Duster is compliant and comfortable, with excellent off-roading ability for the price.
Practicality and Running Costs
The Duster isn't the largest SUV around, and yet it still offers plenty of cabin space and a big boot, with 445 litres, or 411 litres if you opt for a four-wheel drive model. Fold the rear seats down and 1,614 litres becomes available, or 1,559 litres with four-wheel drive models.
Due to the size, the Duster is easy to maneuver in tight car parks and around town, so venturing into the city is relatively simple.
As for running costs, Dacia is a value brand, and therefore offers good economy and straight-forward, affordable servicing and maintenance costs. Interior, Technology and Safety
An uncluttered, attractive and easy-to-use dashboard awaits occupants in the cabin. Clear analogue dials are complemented by a smart and easy to use central touchscreen, along with neat and concise switchgear. The general simplicity is refreshing and straightforward.
'Access' models strip back Duster specification even further, as these models do without the infotainment screen, air-con and radio. Seems very basic, but then a scarce interior will appeal to some who want the Duster as a no-nonsense workhorse.
'Essential' models offer many modern day luxuries, such as a radio, air-con and Bluetooth, whilst 'Comfort' models gain alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment, sat-nav and parking sensors. 'Prestige' models are the range-toppers and include larger 17-inch alloys, a part leather interior, parking cameras and climate control.
Safety kit on the Duster includes ABS brakes, front and side airbags, blindspot detectors and ESC (electronic stability control).
