Introducing the new Ford Transit City
The Ford Transit City is an all-new, fully electric van designed to handle the rough-and-tumble of work in towns and cities. Built to navigate busy streets, tight delivery routes and increasingly regulated clean air zones, it brings zero-emission capability to the kind of day-to-day commercial operations that keep Britain's businesses moving. Whether you're running last-mile deliveries, managing a trade round or operating a municipal fleet, the Transit City will fit seamlessly into your working day.
The newest and most urban-focused member of Ford's Transit family, the Transit City is broadly similar in size to the Transit Custom. Available in three body styles — L1H1 Van, L2H2 Van and Chassis Cab — there's a set-up to suit a wide range of jobs, from parcel couriers and utility contractors to local authorities and conversion specialists.
Payload and Capacity
The Transit City punches well above its weight when it comes to carrying capacity. The compact L1H1 Van offers up to 6.4 cubic metres of load volume and a payload of up to 1,085 kg — enough to easily handle a full load of parcels for a delivery driver.
The larger L2H2 Van has a capacity of up to 8.5 cubic metres, with a maximum load length of over 3,000 mm, and can shift up to 1,275 kg of building materials. For tradespeople who don't normally think in terms of abstract kilograms, this is about the same as a loaded pallet of bricks.
If your business needs a van that's a little bit different, the Chassis Cab variant opens the Transit City up to a wide range of specialist conversions — from box vans and dropsides to refrigerated units and welfare vehicles.
This is all great news for delivery firms, utility contractors and municipal operators looking to electrify their fleets without sacrificing all-important versatility. Across all bodystyles, the load area has practical rear cargo doors that open to 180 degrees, with a kerbside load door available on the L1H1 to help drivers work safely and efficiently in heavy traffic.
Technology and Safety
The Ford Transit City comes in one trim level, meaning no awkward conversations about which spec to choose. Every buyer gets the same 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and full safety suite from day one. For many drivers, the van doubles as an office, so features like smartphone mirroring aren’t luxuries – they’re essential tools for managing jobs, routes, and customer communication in real time. Keyless start, air conditioning and a heated driver's seat all help to make long shifts that little bit easier.
The suite of safety features has been put together with city driving in mind. Standard equipment includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning and Lane-Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control, Intelligent Speed Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, and both front and rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera. Driver Alert and Driver State Monitoring technology keeps a quiet eye on tiredness behind the wheel — useful reassurance for anyone clocking up long hours on the road.
Focused on keeping your van on the road, Ford Pro Service provides additional peace of mind, with access to over 800 specialist Transit Centres across Europe, along with a growing fleet of Mobile Service vans.
Economy and Performance
As an all-electric van, the Ford Transit City produces zero tailpipe emissions — a must-have for anyone working in or around Clean Air Zones and Low Emission Zones. It's powered by a 110kW electric motor, fed by a 56kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery (LFP cells are better suited to frequent fast charging cycles than conventional lithium-ion batteries.)
The targeted range of up to 157 miles on a full charge is comfortably enough for most working days. Ford's own data from thousands of connected electric vans shows that around 90 percent of vehicles in this segment travel fewer than 70 miles per day — meaning most drivers will arrive back at base with charge to spare.
One-pedal driving is available as standard, allowing drivers to slow down using regenerative braking rather than the footbrake, helping recoup energy and reducing brake wear over time.
Servicing intervals of every two years or 25,000 miles, combined with servicing costs expected to be around 40 percent lower than an equivalent diesel, mean the Transit City is economical in the long term.
Charging
Charging the Ford Transit City is straightforward, with options to suit both depot-based fleets and businesses that rely on the public charging network. For overnight charging at a yard, an 11kW AC charger will take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 4.5 hours — so a van plugged in at the end of the working day will be ready the following morning.
For those who need a faster top-up during the day, the Transit City supports DC rapid charging at up to 87kW — enough to go from 10 to 80 percent in close to 33 minutes. That's approximately 30 miles of range added for every 10 minutes on a rapid charger. Ford Pro also helps businesses monitor charging status, plan routes and keep vehicles on the road.
