Introducing the Grandland X Plug-in Hybrid
The new Grandland X Plug-in Hybrid is big news in the world of Vauxhall; it's the first in a series of new vehicles set to electrify their range of cars.
On sale now, this hybrid version of the powerful SUV marks the first step in Vauxhall’s plans to go electric. Designed from the beginning to incorporate a hybrid powertrain, the everyday practicality of the Grandland X isn't impacted by the additional battery pack. The regular boot is the same size, although you do lose the underfloor storage compartment.
The real-world range and performance is ideal for most people, who can commute on electric power alone and then utilise the petrol engine when they want to go further afield.
The Grandland X Hybrid features a 3.7kW on-board charger, and you can plug it in to achieve a full charge from 0-100% in 3h 30min. There's an optional 7.4kW charger too, which can achieve the same result in just 1h 45min.
You can plug the car in at home using a wallbox, which we can help to have arrange installed at your home. Alternatively, there are more than 26,000 public charging points across the UK that are equipped with rapid charging stations, a number that is constantly increasing.
To reduce the need for plugging in, the Grandland X will actually charge itself on the move using regenerative braking. When you slow the car down, energy normally lost through braking is sent back into the battery, increasing the electric range by up to 10%.
Range and Performance
There are two versions of the Grandland X hybrid - Hybrid and Hybrid4. Firstly, there's a front-wheel drive model that produces a total of 225bhp that can travel up to 34 miles on electric power alone, for a theoretical average fuel consumption of up to 192mpg.
The Hybrid4 version is four-wheel drive and increases electric range slightly to 35 miles, and average fuel consumption is rated at 204mpg. This is despite producing a colossal 300bhp and managing to accelerate from 0-60mph in just 5.9 seconds - impressive stuff.
Both versions allow short journeys to be undertaken completely emission-free and stop-start city driving is made far more economical. It's only when you need to go further afield does the petrol engine automatically kick in, so you can travel the same distance as a regular petrol or diesel model without charging if you need to.
Test Drive the Grandland X Hybrid
The Grandland X's ability to combine an efficient and powerful petrol engine with plug-in technology and an electric driving range of up to 30 miles gives you the perfect balance between electrified driving and total convenience.
These additions will compliment the Grandland X’s already strong features, such as its muscular appearance, practical boot and generous equipment list.
