The Lexus CT is a premium hatchback that offers a well-built interior and a good level of practicality. Introduced in 2011, the CT was one of the first premium hatchbacks to come with a hybrid powertrain and it's stood the test of time, still being a fairly common sight on British roads.

There's no tricky decision to make when it comes to powertrains as all CT models come with the same one; an efficient 1.8-litre petrol-hybrid that produces 134bhp. Trips to the petrol are reduced thanks to fuel economy figures of up to 67.3mpg combined.

Whilst it's very economical, the CT loses out to rivals when it comes to driver engagement, going from 0 to 62mph in a moderate 10.3 seconds. Lexus did attempt to amend this during the facelift, but they didn't quite nail it. It's neither super sporty nor uber-comfortable, but you do get a decent balance between the two.

There are multiple driving modes to choose from dependent upon your scenario. Selecting Sport mode gives the CT an extra bit of oomph, which helps when overtaking slower moving traffic.

Practicality and Running Costs

There's a decent amount of space inside the CT, making things easier when fitting a child seat to the ISOFIX mounting points in the rear. Head and legroom are about what you'd expect for a hatchback of this size and, whilst smaller than what you'd find in some rivals, there are a number of cubby holes and storage compartments to use.

375 litres of boot space is reasonable for this segment, but if you need more then you can fold the seats down in a 60:40 configuration, granting access to a larger 985-litre space.
