Engines and Driving Experience
MPVs tend to offer an uninspiring driving experience, due to their tall boxy bodies. This is not the case with the 2 Series Active Tourer. Instead, the Active Tourer offers an engaging driving experience which is not too dissimilar to other BMW models, setting it apart from other MPVs.
This is of course thanks to BMW's experience in creating great drivers' cars, and so some of that DNA has been embedded within this MPV. This means those looking for extra practicality, whilst still keeping a car-like driving experience can have their cake, and eat it.
An economical 3-cylinder petrol engine is available, which is surprisingly refined, along with more potent 2.0-litre versions. Engines are available in petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid and can offer economy from 40mpg to over 150mpg.
Practicality and Running Costs
The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer offers five doors, along with 5-seats and plenty of space, thanks to a higher than normal roof line.
The Active Tourer offers 486 litres of boot space, increasing to 1,510 litres with the rear seats folded flat. If you are after a little bit more practicality, the larger 7-seater BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer (pictured alongside) has 145 litres of space with all seven seats in use, increasing to 560 litres with five seats in use, and with all the rear seats folded, the capacity is a colossal 1,820 litres.
Despite the premium nature of the BMW badge, running costs are reasonable and are only a little more than less desirable MPVs. Servicing can be done at any Evans Halshaw, or any Stratstone BMW retailer for more specialist care.

A less-expensive alternative would be the Ford S-MAX, but you do lack the premium feel somewhat when compared to the BMW. A Mercedes-Benz B-Class would be more of an equal comparison, offering a more digitally optimised cockpit - but therefore commanding more money when buying used. Finally the larger BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is worth looking at if you need seven seats.
