Design and Practicality
This new generation of Clio is brought in line with sister models from across the range with the new family face making it more distinctive than ever before. The expressive central air scoop on the enhanced front bumper surrounds a larger front grille and LED headlights which are standard across the range.
Retaining the old Clio's sleek profile was a deliberate decision, made simply because it found so much favour with customers of the previous generation car. Sport touches on the side of the car include hidden rear door handles and chrome window surrounds.
Boot size is with the best in the supermini class at 391 litres that can be expanded to a massive 1,069 litres with the rear seats folded.
Interior and Technology
Available for the first time on a car of this size is the option of a portrait 9.3-inch EASY LINK central touchscreen infotainment system that controls the multimedia, navigation and MULTI-SENSE functions.
Completing the tech upgrades in the 'Smart Cockpit' is the 10-inch TFT instrument cluster that is fully configurable to the driver's tastes, and allows navigation instructions to be directly in front of you for maximum convenience.
Around the rest of the cabin there's a genuine premium feeling, emphasised by the satin finish metal trim, soft touch plastics and enveloping seats.
All versions of the Renault Clio come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality as standard, allowing you to conveniently connect your smartphone.
Engines and Performance
Petrol and diesel versions of the Clio are available in addition to the All-New Clio E-Tech Hybrid. The new TCe 100 petrol engine generates 100 bhp, which is plenty enough to make the Clio feel spritely and fun.
Moving up the range you'll find the TCe 130, which is seen in plenty of other popular Renault models and gives you a bit of extra shove on the motorway. A 1.5-litre diesel is also available, and will return over 70 mpg on a long distance run.
Safety has always been a strong point of the Clio, and the new generation is no different, with the inclusion of lane departure warning and active emergency braking, plus traffic sign recognition and cruise control, seeing it achieve a five-star EuroNCAP safety rating.
Renault Clio E-Tech Hybrid
Thanks to their involvement in Formula 1, Renault have been able to equip their road-going vehicles with a sophisticated full hybrid powertrain to offer a true electric experience for all. With 145bhp, the E-Tech Hybrid is the most powerful Clio model currently available.
Despite its enhanced power, the E-Tech Hybrid still manages to offer impressive fuel economy figures of up 67.3mpg WLTP and emissions of 120g/km. With instant responsiveness and the ability to travel on electric power alone for short distances, it's the perfect companion for inner city driving.
As the Clio E-Tech is a full hybrid (HEV), there's no need to plug in to recharge the vehicle, giving you peace of mind while out and about.
Regenerative braking, combined with the high charging capacity of the 1.2 kWh batteries and the efficiency of the E-Tech system, helps to optimise energy, whilst delivering significant reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
