OMODA E5 Side View

Having only been on sale since late 2024 in the UK, OMODA has implemented a direct and clear strategy to offer its vehicles full of technology and high specification, as well as being big on safety, at attractive prices, making them rather appealing against competitors.

The OMODA E5 is the brand's first fully-electric SUV for the UK market, effectively being an electric version of the OMODA 5, which uses a petrol engine.

If you're in the market for a high specification compact and electric SUV, that's full of cutting-edge technology, and five-star safety for an ultra-competitive price, especially when used, then read on to discover more about a used OMODA E5.

Engines and Driving Experience

OMODA E5 Side View

The OMODA E5 doesn't come with an engine, as it's fully electric. Therefore, it uses an electric motor and battery combination, which give the E5 a total of 211bhp, meaning it's more powerful than its OMODA 5 sibling which uses a petrol engine.

This also means the E5 is the fastest accelerating of the two, with 0 to 62mph coming up in 7.2 seconds, when compared to the 7.8 seconds of the petrol 5. Like its petrol sibling, its front-wheel drive and automatic too, only the automatic in this E5 is a single speed unit due to its electric nature.

To drive, the electric motor enhances the refinement feel of near silent operation, and the performance will feel nippy for most drivers due to the instant torque.

Practicality and Running Costs

Being a compact SUV, practicality in the OMODA E5 is enhanced somewhat with plenty of cabin space and the naturally larger SUV profile.

Boot space matches its internal combustion sibling, the 5, which is 380 litres. This is impressive as usually electric versions of cars tend to have smaller boot spaces, but this is not the case with the OMODA E5.

When compared to competition, the Hyundai Kona Electric offers 466 litres, but the Volvo EX30 can only muster 318 litres. Therefore the E5 sits somewhere in-between.

As for running costs, the E5 should be more affordable than its internal combustion sibling due to its electric nature.

Interior, Technology, and Safety

OMODA E5 Infotainment System

The interior vibe of the OMODA E5 gives one of a premium place to spend time, thanks to a digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen, both of which are 10.3-inch.

Coming with a generous specification, tech is decent with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming as standard, and there's multiple driver assistance as standard too, which include lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control and speed limit assist, meaning driving is easier and safer.

Safety receives top marks overall, too, as the OMODA E5 received a full five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test, which is ideal if you're wanting one of the safest compact electric SUVs out there.

Is the OMODA E5 right for me?

If you're not loyal to a particular car brand, and like the idea of something different, then the OMODA E5 could be a great used buy, if you're in the market for a compact SUV, full of technology and a decent specification.

It's not the most practical, or quickest SUV out there, but for most, the E5 will impress where it matters.

If you feel like you need a little bit more, then sister brand JAECOO could add that little bit more for you, whilst in a world where the SUV is popular, you're not limited to the sheer amount of choice in the used SUV market.

That said, if you like a lot for your money, it's definitely worth shortlisting a look at an OMODA E5.
