Introducing the all-new Kia Sorento

Kia's flagship model, the Sorento, has returned for a fourth generation that now boasts a more premium design and a host of features that make it more versatile than ever.

Despite offering a driving experience that is better refined and more technologically advanced, the latest Sorento hasn't forgotten its origins, which was built on reliable capability that could transport the whole family without any fuss.

Unsurprisingly, Kia have really upped the ante with the latest generation Sorento, what with the three powertrains that deliver improved fuel economy and lower emissions over the outgoing model, whilst increasing performance at the same time.

Design and Practicality

Kia Sorento Boot Space

Elegant and unassuming in its design, yet the Sorento is guaranteed to capture attention from onlookers, who will appreciate contemporary features such as the wing-shaped air-intake and full LED headlamps. Complementing the new look are a variety of colours that offer a premium take on widely recognised colour palettes.

Practicality has never been a weak point for the Sorento. In fact, the latest model comes with seven seats as standard (available as a 5-seater, too). What's more impressive is the third row of seats will comfortably accommodate fully-grown adults, which is less common in this segment than you'd think.

Boot space has increased by 32 percent over the outgoing model, with 179 litres available with all seven seats in place. That number may not sound much, but the second and third row of seats can be easily folded down (via the buttons in the boot's sidewall) to create a massive cargo capacity.

Technology and Safety

Kia Sorento Infotainment

Living at the heart of the dashboard is a cutting-edge infotainment system that houses a 10.25-inch touchscreen, which perfectly complements the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Features such as satellite-navigation are included, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone connectivity.

Sorento also offers Kia’s innovative UVO Connect telematics system, which provides useful information via the in-car touchscreen and through the connected smartphone(s).

The Bluetooth system allows two smartphones to be connected concurrently (ideal for calls and music). Thanks to the various USB ports and charging stations dotted around the cabin, all passengers can connect and charge their phone when required.

Driver aids and safety features available include:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)
  • Rear View Monitor (RVM) with Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA)
  • Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA)
  • Smart Cruise Control with Stop&Go (SCC)

Economy and Performance

Kia Sorento Side Profile

All-new Sorento is available with three different powertrain choices, which consist of a sole diesel, a self-charging hybrid (HEV) and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Starting with the diesel, which is a turbocharged 2.2-litre that produces 199bhp. The new engine is actually 19.5kg lighter than its predecessor; this translates to better efficiency. Opt for the diesel and you'll get Kia's new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which provides optimal performance and fuel economy.

The Sorento Hybrid pairs a 1.49kWh battery pack and 44.2kW electric motor with a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine, whilst the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid utilises the same engine that's paired with a more powerful electric motor. Both electrified powertrains are mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

An all-electric range of more than 31 miles is achievable in the PHEV variant, enabling emission free driving for the average daily commute.

Test drive the all-new Kia Sorento

The Sorento has come a long way since the original model that was released in the early 2000s, which was purely a functional off-road SUV.

Fast forward to the present generation and it's clear to see just how far Kia's flagship model has come, with a fresh design language and its raft of advanced technology now taking centre stage.

Combined with a 7-year/100,000 miles warranty, it's hard to find this much quality, space and capability at this price point. Please contact your nearest Evans Halshaw Kia retailer if you would like to test drive the all-new Sorento.
