Available as a plug-in hybrid only, the MGS9 PHEV gives you the flexibility of electric motoring for daily use, together with the reassurance of a petrol engine for longer trips. Better still, every MGS9 PHEV comes with MG's seven-year, 80,000-mile warranty as standard — one of the longest manufacturer warranties available on any new car in the UK.
Design and Practicality
The MGS9 PHEV has a broad front end, modern LED lighting and a tall, upright stance that sends out a clear message. This SUV is not trying to turn heads — it's simply trying to make life easier for families like yours.
With all three rows of seats in use, there's still 332 litres of boot space — roughly the same as you'd get in a typical family hatchback. This expands to over 1,000 litres when the back row is folded flat, making the MGS9 PHEV just as practical on a weekly supermarket run as it is on a road trip. Small considerations make a big difference, like the second-row seat that folds and slides forward in one motion at the touch of a button, giving third-row passengers a clear path in — no gymnastics required.

Safety is a strength. The MGS9 PHEV has the highest available five-star Euro NCAP rating with strong scores across passenger protection. Seven airbags and a high-strength steel chassis provide a solid foundation, while the full MG Pilot suite offers up to 16 active driver assistance systems. These include active emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control. The MG Pilot Custom function also lets drivers save their preferred safety settings, so the car always works the way you want it to.
Engines and Performance
Available exclusively as a plug-in hybrid, the MGS9 PHEV uses the same proven powertrain as the award-winning MG HS PHEV. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine pairs with an electric motor and a 24.7kWh battery to deliver a combined output of 295bhp with a 0 to 62mph time of 9.6 seconds. CO₂ emissions of just 18g/km also make it a worthwhile choice for company car drivers, with Benefit-in-Kind tax starting from just 9 percent.
In day-to-day driving, the MGS9 PHEV is smooth and unfussy. The electric motor handles the bulk of the work in and around town, with the petrol engine stepping in seamlessly on longer trips. With a 65-litre fuel tank, range anxiety simply isn't a factor.
With a 2,000kg braked towing limit — MG's highest ever — the MGS9 PHEV is also one of the few seven-seat PHEVs genuinely capable of pulling a caravan or horsebox.
Charging
Plug in overnight, and the MGS9 PHEV's 62-mile electric range takes care of the school run, the commute and the Saturday errands. Using a 7kW home wallbox, a full charge takes around four hours — ideal for taking advantage of cheaper overnight electricity tariffs.
Out and about, the MGS9 PHEV charges with a Type 2 AC connection at public charge points — the kind you'll find at supermarkets, retail parks and leisure centres. It's worth noting that the MGS9 PHEV doesn't support DC rapid charging, so it's best to charge at home or at your destination rather than at the motorway services.
The MG iSMART app lets you monitor charging status and schedule charge times remotely, which is handy for planning around off-peak tariffs. With a 65-litre petrol tank as backup, longer journeys will always take care of themselves.
