As the latest addition to MG's exciting new IM range, the MG IM6 follows on from the impressive IM5 saloon , marking the brand's bold entry into the premium electric SUV segment.
It's a strong contender on all fronts - great to look at, powerful, and packed with the latest technology and safety features, offering everything you need from performance to practicality in one striking SUV.
Multiple electric versions are available from the entry-level Long Range model that's ideal for everyday to a supercar-rivalling Performance model, each making the IM6 a serious contender in MG's line-up.
Read on to discover the many features and benefits of the brand-new IM6.
Design and Practicality
The MG IM6 has a balanced, confident exterior thanks to its sloping roofline and well-proportioned body that give it a more refined coupe-like feel than many electric SUVs.
The front is simple and uncluttered, with sharp LED lighting and just enough detailing to keep it interesting without being too busy. At the back, a full-width tail light and subtle spoiler help give the car a wide, stable appearance, while flush door handles and well-sized alloy wheels finish the design.
It also excels in practicality, with a boot size of 665 litres, and a smaller 32-litre front compartment that’s useful for cables or smaller bags. There’s also hidden space under the rear boot floor, which helps keep everyday items organised and out of view.
Inside, the IM6 feels open and practical, with good space in both rows and enough width for three adults to sit comfortably in the back. The flat rear floor and reclining rear seats add comfort on longer journeys, and the panoramic glass roof brings in extra light without making the cabin feel cramped.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Inside the IM6, the layout is focused and uncluttered, with a large 26.3-inch screen stretching across the dashboard, combining the driver display and infotainment in one unit. Below that, a separate 10.5-inch portrait screen handles climate and other secondary controls.
Most functions are accessed through these touchscreens, including navigation, and wireless smartphone connection via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The materials feel solid, and the seats are finished in a leather-style trim that’s both soft and supportive. Heating and ventilation are available in both rows, and the front seats even have a massage function, which adds a bit of extra comfort on longer trips.
There are plenty of helpful features to give you peace of mind on the road, including:
- Rainy Night Mode: Uses sensors and cameras to keep visibility clear in poor weather
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Keep Assist
- Automatic Emergency Braking
Range and Performance
The IM6 comes in two fully electric versions, both offering strong performance and competitive range.
The Long Range model is rear-wheel drive and uses a 100kWh battery to produce 402bhp. It’s capable of up to 388 miles on a single charge (WLTP), which puts it ahead of many rivals in this segment and makes it a solid choice for longer trips or regular commuting.
If you're after more power, the Performance model steps things up with dual motors and all-wheel drive. It puts out 742bhp and goes from 0 to 62mph in just 3.5 seconds. That’s sports car territory, but in a larger and more practical body. Even with that level of power, it still offers a range of up to 313 miles (WLTP), which is more than enough for most needs.
Both versions handle well, with quick response and a smooth ride. The Performance model has extra grip and sharper acceleration, while the Long Range version is lighter and a bit more efficient, making it the better option for everyday use.
Charging
Like all vehicles in MG's electric line-up, the IM6 supports fast and flexible charging, whether you're at home or using a public charger.
Its 800V electrical system allows for charging speeds of up to 396kW, which means you can go from 10 to 80 percent in just 17 minutes using a compatible ultra-rapid charger, putting it among the quickest in its class.
For home charging, a standard 7kW wallbox will fully charge the battery overnight, so it's easy to start each day with a full range. The car also works with the MG app, which lets you monitor charging, pre-heat or cool the cabin, and check battery levels remotely from your phone.
