Design and Practicality
Upon first glance, the IM5 stands out as a premium edition to the range, thanks to its classy coupe-like silhouette and premium detailing. The exterior design is clean and modern without feeling overly futuristic, and the subtle rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels give it a confident stance.
Despite the sleek profile, there’s no compromise on practicality. The hatchback-style tailgate reveals a 457-litre boot, which is enough room for a full load of luggage, the weekly shop, or a couple of suitcases.
Rear passengers get plenty of legroom to make long journeys comfortable, and the adjustable rear seatbacks offer a bit of added flexibility for longer journeys.
The panoramic glass roof helps give the cabin an open, airy feel, and thoughtful touches like multiple USB ports and ambient lighting make it a pleasant space whether you're driving or along for the ride.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Inside the IM5, the focus is clearly on technology and comfort. The dashboard is centred around a large 26.3-inch display, paired with a secondary 10.5-inch vertical screen in the centre console. These control almost every function in the car, from climate to navigation, and come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
There’s a strong sense of calm in the cabin, helped by double-glazed windows, minimal road noise, and a 20-speaker audio system that delivers impressive sound quality. Heated and ventilated leather-style seats come as standard, and overall, the layout is clean and minimalistic, with very few physical buttons.
In terms of safety, the IM5 offers plenty of useful driver assistance features, including:

Range and Performance
Buyers can choose from three versions of the IM5, each fully electric but offering a different balance of range and performance.
The entry-level model uses a 75kWh battery paired with a single motor producing 291bhp. It’s rear-wheel drive and offers a range of 329 miles, which should be more than enough for most daily driving.
A step up brings the Long Range version, which increases the battery size to 100kWh and boosts power to 402bhp. It’s still rear-wheel drive, but delivers up to 441 miles of range on a full charge - one of the longest ranges available from any electric car at this price point.
At the top of the line-up is the dual-motor Performance model. Using the same 100kWh battery but with all-wheel drive and 742bhp, it can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 3.2 seconds. While it shares much of its interior and practicality with the other versions, it adds serious speed and feels more like a performance car than a typical EV saloon.
Charging
One of the standout features of the IM5 is how quickly it can charge, especially when using ultra-rapid public chargers. Thanks to its 800V electrical system, the battery can be topped up from 10 to 80 percent in just 17 minutes when connected to a 350kW DC charger.
Charging at home is made easy with a standard 7kW wallbox, which can deliver a full charge overnight for extra convenience.
The charging port is placed at the rear for easy access, and like most new EVs, you can use the MG mobile app to check battery levels, schedule charging sessions, or warm up the cabin before you set off.
