Introducing the all-new Kia Sportage hybrid and plug-in hybrid
As Kia's range of hybrid and electric cars continues to expand, it comes as no surprise to see the all-new Sportage offer full hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains to its buyers for the first time.
Offering the most power within the Sportage range, the PHEV variant can complete the majority of day-to-day trips in an emissions-free manner through use of its electric driving mode. You can even thank the impressive low emissions and long electric range for its welcoming low tax band.
Unlike the PHEV, the HEV variant won't need to be plugged in as it uses regenerative braking to recharge the batteries, enhancing fuel economy.
The best part? PHEV and HEV models still benefit from the industry-leading Kia 7-year warranty, giving you peace of mind whilst enjoying your all-new Sportage. Boot space may be slightly reduced compared to mild hybrid (MHEV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) variants due to the additional space taken up by the batteries.
Range and Performance
With a total power output of 261bhp, the PHEV variant offers the best performance figures and comes with an all-wheel drivetrain. You can expect over 43 miles of emissions-free range when travelling in the all-electric driving mode, covering the school run or a commute to work for most.
An innovative quality to enhance efficiency, performance, and reduce NVH levels when driving, the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid also includes Kia's quality Hybrid Starter Generator module and Hybrid Power Control Unit.
There's both all-wheel and front-wheel drive options available with a HEV, giving you the choice dependent on your lifestyle and needs. Whilst slightly lower than PHEV variants, a total power output of 226bhp produced by HEV models is still enough to get where you need to be in a sharp fashion.
The new PHEV drivetrain layout allows for a spacious, no-compromise interior. Step inside to find the spacious legroom, headroom, and luggage capacity, making long journeys a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
The intelligent hybrid technology works in seamless tandem with other features on the car such as driving modes like 'terrain mode' which automatically adjusts the Sportage's settings to ensure it operates at optimal levels no matter what road surface you're tackling.
Charging
If you opt for a PHEV, you won't have many issues recharging the batteries as you're able to charge it at home using a traditional 3-pin wall socket for overnight charging. If you're short on time and need to reduce charging time, then you can choose to install a wallbox at home or visit a public charging station.
If you're unsure where charging points are in your surrounding area, various mobile apps are available to direct you to the nearest charging station. If battery charge was to run low, the all-new Sportage will automatically switch to hybrid mode, allowing you to get home with no issues.
The all-new Sportage Plug-in Hybrid gets to full charge in just 1 hour and 45 minutes, making it the fastest charging Kia PHEV to date.
For those that don't have regular access to a charging point, the HEV variant charges itself by recycling kinetic energy that's usually lost during braking and coasting.
