Introducing the new Kia EV3
The new EV3 is Kia's dedicated compact EV SUV, with a combination of bold looks, cutting-edge technology and groundbreaking features. Sitting under its fellow EV6 and EV9 siblings in the Kia range, EV3 looks like a smaller EV9 - which is no bad thing, as the EV9 looks properly futuristic.
Kia EV3 will set new standards which have never been seen before in the compact EV SUV market, with kit and technology normally reserved for large EV SUV segment cars.
What's more, the Kia EV3 features excellent range and ultra-fast charging capabilities, too.
Design and Practicality
The design of the Kia EV3 makes a bold and progressive statement. It's futuristic, yet seamlessly blends in with the rest of the Kia range.
This fully-electric SUV exudes a highly assertive presence, with the front featuring vertical headlamps, which are positioned in a way to give a more wide, ultra-confident stance.
Complemented by a new interpretation of Kia's 'Tiger Face' design, which now incorporates the latest Star Map signature lighting concept.
Elsewhere, there's a more rugged and adventurous appearance, with a lower body trim which enhances the overall design.
And being an SUV, there's plenty of space too, with a 460-litre boot, along with a 25-litre 'frunk'.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
With plenty of interior space, enough for five with comfort, the 12.3-inch instrument cluster, and 12.3-inch infotainment screen give the cabin a properly digital showcase.
There's also the ability to specify a multitude of interior colours, finishes and materials inspired by 'Air, Earth and Water' elements.
Despite being a compact SUV, Kia has given the EV3 features usually reserved for the large EV SUV sector. That means EV3 also features Kia's AI Assistant technology, Kia's voice assistant and the ability to customise the EV3s dashboard and infotainment system.
There's lots of safety kit available with the EV3 too, which includes:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
- Lane Keeping Assist,
- Highway Driving Assist
- Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist
Range and Performance
There's two sizes of battery available with the new Kia EV3.
These come in the form of a 58.3kWh battery, whilst the Long Range variant features a 81.4kWh battery. Both models feature an electric motor which produces 201bhp, good for a 0 to 62mph time of 7.5 seconds.
The Long Range version provides up to 372 miles of range, so we'd expect the regular version to return more around the 300-mile mark.
The performance is in keeping with cars of this size and nature, and the 0 to 62mph time sees the EV3 be fast enough to be an enjoyable drive, without digging into the range too much.
Charging
Charging will all depend on chosen set-up, but there is fast charging available with the Kia EV3, meaning Kia’s advanced Vehicle Charging Management System ensures that you can charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 31 minutes.
