Introducing the Ford Puma

Sitting between the EcoSport and the Kuga in Ford's increasingly popular SUV range, the new Puma has been designed as the athletic choice for those who enjoy an engaging driving experience on top of SUV practicality and styling.

It's classed as a compact SUV but retains a 5-door layout with a large boot and makes use of a number of innovative storage solutions. This makes the Puma an ideal choice when you need a family car but still want excellent maneuverability, low running costs and desirable styling features.

It's powered by Ford's fantastic EcoBoost petrol engine, and features mild-hybrid technology that boosts both performance and fuel economy without ever needing to be plugged in.

Design and Practicality

Ford Puma, Exterior, Rear

Designed to stand out from the increasing number of options in the new SUV market, Ford have styled a seriously handsome vehicle with smooth body lines with attractive front and rear aspects.

In terms of practicality, this is where the Puma's additional size compared with the EcoSport and Fiesta-sized vehicles really comes to the fore. Surprisingly, it's actually got a bigger boot than a Focus, which means the Puma is more than capable of whisking you away on a family holiday.

You may look at the sloping back roof and think that there's a cost to rear headroom, but that's not the case - the slope comes after the rear seats, and headroom is not affected. Rear legroom is more than decent, too.

Interior and Technology

Ford Puma Interior

The interior is typical of a modern Ford; well thought out and makes use of materials that are of far better quality than any vehicle at this price point has any right to.

The digitally displayed instrument dials are crystal clear and provide all the vital information that the driver may need, and the remarkably responsive Ford SYNC 3 infotainment system houses all of the car's connectivity and media functionality.

A clever feature specially incorporated into the Puma is zip-off seat covers in both the front and rear, meaning they can be easily removed and washed if required. High-spec models also get a hands-free tailgate, enabling you to open the boot by waving your foot under the rear bumper.

Economy and Performance

Ford Puma, Exterior, Driving

There's only one engine option with the Puma, although you are able to choose between 124 and 153bhp outputs, should you desire a bit more power in your life. Acceleration to 62mph is rated at 9.8 seconds and 8.9 seconds respectively.

Both engines are boosted by mild-hybrid technology, which manages to improve both performance and fuel economy while lowering emissions at the same time - all without the need for plugging in.

You should be seeing around 45-50 mpg no matter which engine output you go for, and as a driving experience the experts at Car Buyer rate the Puma as "the best small SUV to drive" - which tells you all you need to know.
