What is a runabout?

Citroen Runabout

Originally, a runabout was a bodystyle of car that was intended to be a basic form of transport which was affordable to the masses.

Nowadays, a runabout is more commonly known as a city car (or even a supermini) that is affordable to buy and doesn't cost a lot to run in terms of fuel economy, insurance and road tax. They're not really basic anymore either, with excellent levels of safety and technology.

Car makers such as Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Toyota as well as Kia and Hyundai are all still producing excellent value small cars that act as perfect runabouts in both urban and rural areas.
