Coming with a number of petrol and plug-in hybrid engines, the Leon is designed to offer both maximum performance when driving in a spirited manner, as well as refinement when cruising.
If opting for a petrol, both of the engines come in the form of a 2.0-litre TSI DSG-auto, with the only difference being the power output. The 242bhp variant offers more than enough, going from 0 to 62mph in 6.4 seconds. But if it's optimal performance you're after, the 296bhp powerplant can get you there in 5.7 seconds.
Fuel economy is decent, but you will benefit from better efficiency and up to 32 miles of pure electric range if opting for the 1.4-litre 242bhp plug-in e-Hybrid. This can also go from 0 to 62mph in 6.7 seconds.
Practicality and Running Costs
A five-door setup comes as standard, which makes access to the rear ISOFIX mounting points easier. Head and legroom are good all round, but taller passengers may feel more comfortable sat in the front, as rear headroom isn't class-leading.
380 litres of boot space is provided, which is reasonable, with the 60/40 rear folding seats providing further space when flat. However, e-Hybrid models have a reduced boot size of 270 litres due to the hybrid technology taking up extra space. A more practical estate bodystyle can be found, which offers 620 litres of boot capacity, if you need the extra room.
Due to its performance, the Leon's running costs will be at the higher end of the scale. Insurance starts at group 28 (out of 50) and can rise up to group 34 if opting for a more powerful example. Interior, Technology and Safety
