Although the C4 is technically sold as a hatchback, it shares a lot of similarities with a traditional SUV. This isn't a bad thing because it means the C4 has the driving manners of a regular family car, but also has the enhanced practicality that SUVs are known for.
While the C4 is a fine-looking car, its appearance isn't the only reason you'd consider one. Notable highlights include:

Engines and Driving Experience
Citroën are renowned for their comfortable cars, and the C4 is no exception. This car utilises something the brand calls Progressive Hydraulic Cushions. We won't bore you with the details, but we will tell you that they soak up a lot of the imperfections on Britain's roads.
Bar that, the interior is well-insulated from road and wind noise, while the seats have been purposefully designed for maximum comfort.
There are a variety of petrol engines to choose from courtesy of a 1.2-litre PureTech unit, and produce anywhere between 100 and 155bhp. Expect between 44 and 54mpg from these units, depending on the variant you go for.
Two diesel engines are available, producing either 110 or 130bhp. These will return between 56 and 64mpg without too much effort. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard fit, but higher-spec engines get an 8-speed automatic.
Finally, there is the ë-C4, which recruits a 50kWh battery and can travel up to 217 miles on a full charge. Producing zero emissions, it's a great choice if you want to reduce your carbon footprint.
Practicality and Running Costs
Combining a hatchback with an SUV may sound odd, but it translates to a 5-door family car that's immensely practical. Take the boot for instance, its 380-litre capacity may not be class-leading (it's certainly up there), but the flat loading sill and adjustable boot floor makes it convenient to use on a daily basis.
A sloping roofline doesn't traditionally translate to a spacious interior, but the seats are positioned low in the cabin (despite the raised ride height), meaning there's plenty of headroom for tall passengers. As you'd expect, the C4 is fitted with ISOFIX anchor points in the rear, making it easy to fit a child's seat.

The vibrant 10-inch touchscreen that occupies the central dashboard really looks the part, and beautifully complements the soft-touch materials and sophisticated interior design. Voice recognition is a standard feature within the infotainment system, while popular apps, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, come as standard.
